I'd take the dealer repair bill (mileage hopefully noted) and those pictures in and ask them what they will do about it.  Probably nothing.  Tell them you haven't named the dealer in public posts on bike forums..... yet.

Every time I've seen those Mojave Desert looking pictures of the shaft and pinion (many posted before), I'm just blown away.  I do most of my own work and am no expert, but every time the back comes off, I am holding my breath mine doesn't look like that.  So far so good.

That looks like water damage, so the seal did not do its job either .

The seal was crooked and maybe half in, I should have taken that pic also.

I do most of my own work also Jess, but I had purchased a Honda warranty and they had replaced everything between the u-joint and the axle on one visit.  The replacement parts I need now aren't too expensive and I'd rather fix it and know it's done right this time.  And bad, bad Chuck, I didn't pull the pumpkin off and inspect the cup since that work was done.

FYI - I more than doubled the cost of the Honda warranty in parts and repairs, I nickel and dimed them while it was active.   :cooldude:

Well, this is disappointing;   :(

...last worked on by local Honda dealer.  Bad, bad Chuck for not pulling it apart and verifying that Honda dealer actually greased the parts before assembly.  The teeth are about 90% worn off, looking at the fiche it appears that I can replace the cup myself so another order with Partzilla.

Cup and driveshaft.  They should be replaced as a pair.  Fortunately, that's the cheap part of the rear drive.  The drive splines/driven star hub are the bigger get.

Yep!, cup, shaft, seal, o-ring under the cup (not sure about this one until I remove the cup), shock bushings, and a long list of other items I've seen needing replacement since this job started, were ordered last night about 1:30 AM.

I don't want to pile on, Chuck, while you're beating yourself up, but that tire won't be taller. Its sidewall will be 6mm shorter (60% of the width difference).

More like what did I do Sunday?  Completed the change of the clutch pivot brass bushing thing along with bleeding the clutch line, traced down and fixed the connection for the CB and adjusted the center stand.

More like what I did last night.  I pulled the anemic air horns off and tossed them and added dual tone car horns.  I hid them inside the pods.

I was referring to when you said 195/60.  Now you mention 195/65, which is very close to stock height.   ???

Leaving out any effect rim width has on the intended shape of a tire...

The stock 180/70 rear is 180 wide and 70% of that in sidewall height for 126mm tall.

195/60 is 117mm tall
195/65 is 126.75 tall
205/60 is 123mm tall
205/65 is 133.25 tall

That is a nice looking tire.  What's the UTQG number?

I wanted one taller than what was on the bike now, not taller than stock, using a tire calculator a 195/65 is taller than the 205/60.

QuoteThat is a nice looking tire.  What's the UTQG number?

No clue and no way to check it as I refused delivery and had it sent back.  I am going with a 205/65 to get enough height to make a difference.

Nice looking tire.  :cooldude:

I bet when mounted on the rim and aired up, its not quite so tall as it is in the comparison pic.  Still taller for sure.

I ordered the Carburetor Gasket Kit from Red Eye Technical Services.  That Rich is quite a guy.   :cooldude:   Please support him when you can.

My order confirmation was at 11:11pm.  At 1:11am, I received shipping confirmation.  At 1:13am, I received a $1.86 refund because actual shipping was $3.64 instead of the $5.50 the website plugged in.

Once the gasket kit arrives, I believe I'll have all the parts necessary to get the IS running properly.

Houdini, just a word on the antenna.

I do not have an intestate (or other long) whip back there on my supervalk, but my Firestick CB antenna (maybe 20-24")  is mounted back there higher on the top bag rail, farther out.  It doesn't happen often, but sometimes at high speed with bumps and crosswinds thrown in, mine will get moving back and forth or around in circles, and has hit the saddlebag lid, and my tail light lens (std on interstate fender knockout) hard enough to to mark the paint and the lens.  The first pic that shows it leaning back a bit, is a good idea, and maybe it's stiff enough.  Mine was mounted straight up (on a really stiff spring), and I had to lean it back where it won't hit things no matter how much it flies around, in the right conditions.

It didn't happen often, but when it started knocking on the bike the first time, I thought something bad was happening in the drive train or a wheel bearing.  Thump, whack, and off the next exit I went.  It was a complete mystery, until the first time I looked back and saw it whacking my bag lid.  WTF?

Maybe it can't happen with that whip.  Just a heads up.

Funny you mentioned this Jess, I took my daughter for a ride and she said my antenna kept hitting her, it was very windy and maybe a combination of wind and motion, but now I've got to look into a shorter antenna or some way to keep my passengers from getting whacked.

Now that the Vikings are off, I put a set of stock exhaust on. Need to find the chromie pieces that go in front of the mufflers and behind the drivers pegs (heck I may put the Vikings back on, who knows). Finally replaced BOTH halves of the rear fender, drilled holes and mounted the trim piece on the bottom edge of rear half. Gave the wiring harness a bit of a haircut around the battery box (freakin added fuse block was a mess). Decided to go ahead and mount the rear seat instead of the Solo Bar, fender bib and chrome rail around the passenger seat. Ordered the replacement switch for the blinker assembly on the handlebars along with Banjo washers so I can rebuild the F+R brakes. Removed a bunch of the braided stuff covering some cables. Need to decide how much longer than stock (choke, both throttle cables along with the clutch line) with the Duce Risers currently on. I'm thinking 3-4" longer when I compare the stock risers side by side. Oh yeah............. took the Rifle shield off and installed the brackets for the stock shield, I plan on going with a Clearview.  But the Vikings sounded so badaze,    I still like paks and stacks better             Good Times

Nah.  I mean, I washed mine, which happens once a year whether needed or not.  Put on a front tire before going to Inzane.  Put on a new horn which almost fell off 2 hours down the road so took it off and it's still in the saddlebag waiting for a better install.  Just forgot to post that stuff.
