Ive been running Metzler 880s for a while but they were so quickly that I was considering a Austone Taxi Tire In fact Im going to order it later in the week if no one talks me out of it I know there are thousands of post on car tires and the Ausone in particular Both tire run about $150 , but I hear the Austone last MANY more miles and should fit well on my 200 I/S and handles about the same as a MC tire
The Metler 880 is a soft tire from what I understand and it handles well in the rain as well. THat is my only uneducated fear with the Austone but looking at the tread pattern I would think it may handle better in the rain than the Metzler?
Thoughts ?

I'm using 13" HD Progressive 444s. I agree, it's all good. Austone at about 38psi has been feeling and riding well. I will also agree to use the 13in shocks. My preload is at 3. It is a wee bit taller, so that is the need for the taller shocks, and it will give a bit more lean on the side stand (so you may want to watch where/how ya park). I had it on my IS with trunk on, and it was fine...trunk off it seems even better. Damn I love this bike.

The ATT has a higher profile then a motorcycle tire, be prepared for that. It is not compatible with less than 13" shocks and less than 30" inseams. It affects the lean angle on the side stand and the rear tire is no longer off the ground on the center stand. That said, I really like mine, but we only have about 600 miles on it...

Thanks for all the feedback . I have Progresive 440 shocks but not sure what length they are . Better check them. I guess I can get a bolt on pad for the kick stand to shim it up a bit

Absolutely love my ATT! Got 5K on it now and I can't tell it isn't a MC tire. Excellent grip, handling, and tread wear, no problems in the rain. It does sit a little higher and will cause the bike to lean a little more on the side stand but that's not a problem for me.
Go ahead and pull the trigger on it!

You might have to get a smaller front wheel....but on a trike I think it would do very well on the front if you can get it to fit.

Only have a couple hundred miles on my A T T and I am convinced it is a good choice. In June I will be putting 2500-3000 more miles on it. Pull the trigger-I WAS NOT sorry I bought mine!  RIDE SAFE.

I agree with all the things said above. I have an Austone rear with an Avon radial front on my 2000 IS. I rode it to GOTF and back last month (about 2000 miles) and it was great. The steering is quicker than the Metzlers I replaced which may be just the the Avon?? It does have a slight wiggle at higher speeds (80s) when a cross wind catches the fairing. It is easily controllable and I got used to it pretty quickly - no big deal, for me. Tom

I'm still convinced to this day it was the cause of an almost unrecoverable 100mph tank slapper on Dubb's bike goin' down 75s one morning. You asked for "thoughts"............. I wouldn't ride it to the mailbox!

FYI, I'm running 40F, 38R pressures. I was thinking of going a little higher to see if it made any difference. Wonder if the IS trunk has so much surface area that it's a contributing factor, or all the load of traveling "stuff"? For me it was totally controllable and could be duplicated by just shaking the handle bars. Did I mention it was windy?

that was on a 1500 Goldwing. I didn't have to remove or change anything.

If you run the Austone tire at 45 psi it will stop that high speed wobble, because of it's high sidewall you need the extra air....the tire is designed to take that amount..Punisher put up a thread not long ago, stating the same thing, increase the air, problem gone...

I've had my ATT on my Valkyrie about 2.5 years, guessing 15,000 miles. Love it. It does raise the bike a small amount in the rear but, that was my goal. The taller tire slightly reduces highway rpm. Not a lot but enough and when combined with the others good things about the Austone, I see it as a Win/Win/Win. Proper tire pressure is very important for ride but, more important for handling.

Check the side wall on the tire. If I remember right, I think max inflation pressure on the ATT is 60 psi, I'm running 41 -45 in mine.

Are YOU O K?? M/Cs can be rebuilt/replaced. YOU on the other hand can not be replaced. Far as the "charming" driver those-insert yer description here-ARE everywhere. Having driven truck there you folks on the East coast and West coast do have a higher concentration of "charming" drivers per acre than some folks in the U S of A. RIDE SAFE.

I installed one this weekend, replacing a GTT with 20k on it. The Goodyear still had plenty of tread, but I felt like I needed to service the drive train and wanted to try out the taxi tire after running the GTTs for the last 55k miles. My first impressions are good. Definitely feels taller, and at an indicated 85 mph the tach reads about 3800 (vs. 4000 on the Goodyears). Leans over more than I am used to on the side stand, but that is no biggie. Definitely feels less like a car tire than the GTT, and seems to fall into corners more easily. I have not ridden in rain yet, but am curious how it feels in the wet.
I am very glad I made the change when I did as I found that my drive shaft and pinion cup were very dry and worn at 108,000 miles. I lubed and reinstalled, but have ordered new replacements for next time.

I ran the Michelin Commander II up front. I initially had the metzler but i was unimpressed with the mileage. The Michelin handles just like the Metzler so far and wears much better. Some people claim to get 20k out of them! I am running the Austone rear and its a great combo!
