The guns on these behometh warships are a sight to be seen for sure. 2 years ago visiting Gulf Shores AL, a MUST tour is the USS Alabama. What impressed me more so than the sheer size and number of decks above and more so below deck being smelly and dark having to bring oxygen below deck for sure to live, is the living arrangements these Vets had to endure for months on end. Sort of chocked me up for what these people had to endure that not many of us living today could have done I don't think. Plus, that tour has a small sub to walk thru (not many back then were pushing 300lbs. NO way to go thru the door openings barely sideways) and bet not many sub Vets were over 6' tall either - THUNK! PLus, has a very nice hanger bay filled with airplanes to see upclose during that period as well. We spent well over 4 hours there touring every single nook and cranny available of that battleship, was pooped just walking all over that battleship. http://www.ussalabama.com/

Cool post. My step dad was on the USS California in WWII during the island hopping campaigns. Can't wait to share this with him.

Nice video Looked like way over-kill on the trailer used to transport... If it was heavy enough to need that trailer no-way the crane could have " walked " with it.

Great post. The thing I find ironic is how a grateful nation, such as ours, will not spend a dime of tax dollars for these memorials, but will give billions in aid to our enemies. I say hang all current politicians, to set an example for the next generation of politicians. See if anything changes.
Thank you to all veterans, especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Great post, thanks for sharing it. Seeing the cranes, blocking, dollies, etc used to move those gun barrels gives me an appreciation for how they must have lifted those barrels 80 years or so ago.

When you have a traitor as sec state and a non American as potus and the sycophants around him believe the trash he is spewing why doe's ANYTHING they say or do surprise anyone anymore? I served on a War II era Aircraft Carrier that left much to be desired in Enlisted Men's quarters. I am NOT complaining mind you-my Country called and I answered that call. But more often than not I went back to bed in the same sweaty sheets I left 24-36-48-72 hours before. As to those Naval cannons-I stood on the flight deck above and behind the Marine gun tub which had a 5" 38 for the gun mount. 1 round out of that gun got yer attention-the ones in the video are I believe 16" rifles. I've only ever seen videos of those 16 inchers being fired in anger. I've heard that a full broadside from 16 inchers move the ship sideways. Talk to War II grunts or Korean War grunts or Nam grunts that had help from U S Navy 16 inch artillery help. Don't believe you will find one that did not appreciate that help. RIDE SAFE.

Did a little search and found this.......
The 16-inch barrels are 68 feet long and weigh 120 tons each. Three of them were on the battleship Missouri in 1945, when the Japanese surrendered on its deck at the end of World War II.

Put a shell the weight of a VW rabbit, on a phone booth 25 miles away. I recall,(?), it pushed the ship 4' from a broadside.
