I think it would depend on how well its was maintained and how badly you wanted/needed it.

Someone posted that this one was for sale in SD for 5K...

A well-used dented one would have to go for a lot less, I'd guess...

Thats a nice looking bike and if it looks as good close up I'd think it would certainly be worth that.

One thing that bothers me is the price these monsters are going for. I'm not about to sell mine, I think I'll be buried with it. Even if I were to sell it, if thats all I was offered I would consider that an insult.
I'm surprised that the prices haven't started to go up, I'm still thinking they will. These things are classics.

Kelley Blue Book says retail for a 1998 Tourer is $5875 in my zipcode of 39501.  Personally I think that's a little high.  $5000 is probably a good starting price and go down from there for a better deal.

That's my opinion but I don't have the same sentimental attachment everyone else here has.

The most reasonable thing to do is check with your insurance company and see where they get their values for claims.  Regardless of how "classic" this bike may be, if you wreck it and paid $8500 for it.... your insurance company might give you $4600.  I'd base my price on a median of what they pay VS how much I really care if I pay more than that and wreck it tomorrow.

Buy it for 31 with the stock exhausts, let him sell the jardines and
raise those hiway pegs...

My buddy Dan got one like that for around 3k, it had a
salvage title, but he went through it (I wish I was 1/10th
the mechanic he is) and it was fine.

With airplanes, many old cars to rebuild and a head-dood
job in networking at the computer center, he let it sit
too long and it got gunked up - tank and carbs...

A lot more than the side pod is damaged.  Faring is scratched and engine guards are missing...

I'd buy it for that price....and have him throw in the stock exhaust too.

Then sell everything off of it and then turn it into a bobber Valk is what I'd do.

under 3 grand is a good deal if runs as well as it should.  Go for a test drive some 20-30 miles and give it a go over.  If anything is out of the ordinary,  I probably wouldn't buy it though, but hard to pass up if under 3 grand.

Buy it if it's good and the OEM pipes are good.  With the $300 you can easily get for the OEM pipes that's a $2400 Valkyrie.

OEM pipes are available they don't go with it.

I went to see it today and took an extended test ride.  This bike is worth what he is asking. The low price has nothing to do with the condition of the bike.

I didn't bring it home because I really have no place to put it. Got two in the garage now...

That looks just like the bike I just bought! Unfortunately it has badly worn tires and I need some time to replace them.
