2funny sorry I'll try to whisper. You view an increase in the minimum wage that hasn't kept up even close with inflation as an unearned raise ? If so would not all people on S.S. and govt. pay scales who get COLA be getting unearned raises ?

Nothing. I used it as an example earlier in the thread.  Smiley

I guess some just can't see logic when it stares them in the face.  coolsmiley

I'd be all for eliminating the minimum wage, if employers paid a living wage for their workers wthout being forced to. You can no longer work hard, show initiative and good work ethics, and negotiate a better wage. You don't have the option of moving to a better job, because better jobs are VERY hard to find, especially in this area. That is the reason min. wage was started in the first place. People need to make at least a minimum wage to even be able to buy the crap they make. I spent my whole life in labor jobs, ending up in a factory. When I first came home from the service, I was able to get a job the first day I got home, and in 73 that was easy. I changed jobs the first couple of years, and finally landed a job I liked, that started at 12.50 per hour, and as many hours as I wanted. In 2011, I finished my work career at 12.65. What's wrong with this picture? I had worked 13 years In the factory, learned every job in the department I was in, went to work every day, and accepted any job they asked of me. Only one job classification in the whole plant, and that is how most places do these days. I did not have the option of moving to another factory, as all the rest in the area are running things this way, and too old to move to a better area. Unfortunately, working labor jobs ruined my back, and now am on SSD. "On the dole" as so many of you put it. Less than half of what I was earning when working n the crappy job. So, Yeah,  have issues with all the comments about minimum wages. They are necessary, as even crappy job workers deserve a living wage, to go and do the crappy job you wouldn't lower yourself to do

Due to circumstances beyond my control I'm gainfully unemployed.

Have had a couple of interviews and am disgusted that employers don't even have the decency to tell you thanks but no thanks.

Kinda pleased in a perverse way because if they are of that mind frame would I want to work for them???
