I am having a problem getting back to full power after the reserve switch is engaged. When I feel the engine starting to miss I move the switch but it may take as much as a minute till I get full fuel flow. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Sounds like you're not getting full open full flow.   You might want to either clean that one up or replace the old pet rooster on your tank.    Regardless, I'd still take it apart and make sure you don't have any crap in your gas tank.

Daniel Meyer at his tech sessions at the Inzanes I've been to-the last 4-suggests after filling up to run in the reserve position for 50 miles or so. I've taken to doing that on about every third fillup. Pull the fuel petcock and have a look at the screen/filter. Run you fuel way down before attempting to remove petcock. Sides-if the tank is almost empty los easier t remove from M/C.  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

Before we jump too quickly on the petcock we need to ask whether there is an inline fuel filter, clogged screen, or something else that might restrict flow.

You're showing symptoms of the fuel no flowing as much as it should.  You should recover from going to reserve in a few seconds at the most.

Well, that's what I was trying to say, you just said it better.   cooldude

Had that same symptom and the fix was a petcock rebuild kit. The diaphragm had a small tear in it.
The lag time for the reserve to kick in got longer and longer and finally gas came out the weep hole.
Installed repair kit and all is good.

Do a search for petock and you will find quite a few articles on it.

This might be an example of what I have experienced in the past.
You might have a bad diaphragm in the petcock. When the tank is full, the weight of the gas assists gravity flow in supplying gas to the engine.  As the level in the tank decreases there is less fuel weight to aid in the flow of gas.
When you feel the need to switch to reserve, it is not because the fuel level is below the main pickup tube in the tank, it is because the weight of the gas is less, the petcock cannot supply fuel in either ON or RESERVE. This sounds like a bad diaphragm in the petcock or a leak in the vacuum hose from #6 to the petcock.

IAMTHEISLE,

If this is what is happening, then at what mile are you going to reserve? What bike do you have, std/tourer, or IS?
