With the recent tornado here and 100-200 houses wiped out, been thinking about this a lot, and the idea I've come up with is to, once a year (How about make it a New Year's tradition?) walk around your house recording video of everything with your camera phone, then upload the video to Youtube with all privacy settings on so it's not visible to anyone but you.

That way if you lose everything, you've got an off site video record of your contents, or at least a starting point to build from...

If you can pause the video so you can count every shirt hanging and see every book, screwdriver, plate etc etc etc.

Roof pitch is steeper to accommodate HVAC going into attic.

No dormer windows in attic.

Looks great! - you saved the front door?

Don't let them park trucks under your nice trees - soil compaction could get them...

Yes. All they did was let light into the attic. I'm going to have LED's up there.

Gave me some $$$ to use elsewhere in the house.

Nice you have underground utilities. Attic A/C isn't the best idea. Your house your choice but just about any other option is more appealing to me. I am an hvac tech. Looking good! cooldude

Yes sounds great! Cooling from the hottest available source is one of the dumbest ideas ever in my book.

It used to have a heat exchanger in the attic.

As useful at blowing cold air as a handful of sand.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT.
MY HOME PASSED IT'S COMPLETION CERTIFICATE.
Now if only I could get the punch list completed in a timely manner by the builders.

I have a moving company booked for next Monday. I have to move out of the rental where I am no matter what happens. The owner has workers scheduled to start work July 5th.

IF YOU HAVEN'T PHOTOGRAPHED EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOME GET 'ER DONE.

You WILL NOT be able to remember all you have in every closet and drawer.

GET 'ER DONE IMMEDIATELY. Burn to a CD or flash drive and DON'T keep it at home!!!

Couple of walls removed to make a bigger room.

The cupped/warped flooring gets ripped out and replaced Thursday. One of MANY f ups by so many.

It should have taken about 7 months max to do the rebuild.

The disaster recovery company - that's a frickin joke has to be one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with regards to communication, project management, supervision of sub contractors, organization and whatever else one can think of.

Well, since congratulations are almost in order.... I'll almost congratulate you.   Grin

Really, it's looking very nice.  I hope the final fixes and move-in go smoothly.

As a bachelor, I love my galley kitchen.  (mine's about 50 years older)

10 1/2 months and I'm back in my home  cooldude Hoo frickin ray

Ineptness by contractors and poor project management by the disaster recovery HA-HA company extended my absence by nearly 3 months.

I tried to post a link to a slide show but Photobucket wont let me copy the slide show link. Prats.

A final reminder to y'all.

Photograph everything in your home. Everything.

Have insurance cover for living out of your home.

The rental home I was in cost $2,250 a month and then just over $1,000 a month for furniture, sheets, towels, silver ware, washer, drier etc etc etc All covered by insurance.

Make sure your replacement cost for rebuilding is accurate. If you only have cover for $125,000 but your home is now worth $200,000 get you cover adjusted accordingly.

Don't think IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME!!!!!

Farmers insurance has been first class and I highly recommend them.

get some of Oss's secretary pool to help you fill that shower, lord knows I would.

Well done,  am sure it was a pain in the keester taking way too long, as it normally does way too often months and months falling behind, but once all finished,  you will be at ease again am sure.

yes,  pics are needed so I best one of these days just go in the basement and take pics or video of all my fishing tackle and gear.  I bet I have 3,000 dollars easily on lures/tackle/gear alone if all bought new again, more than all my guns combined.

The rest of the stuff can easily be replaced though since TV's, fridges, etc.  are easily bought new again, NOT all my fishing stuff though taking 20+ years to get.

This reminded me of a story from my military days.  I was TDY down at Camp Pendelton Marine Base CA (from March AFB up in Riverside CA) representing USAF at an all-service JAG conference on matters related to just completed Desert Shield/Storm.

As a company grade officer I only merited quarters in an old converted barracks.  My Q room was spotlessly clean and furnished in what I would call ancient but also clean post-amphibious assault motif.  But the conversion had resulted in my shower being made from a huge closet or small storage room and larger than I had ever seen in any military quarters anywhere.

During the opening stage of the conference, each branch officer stood and introduced himself to the others, and made a few comments about his branch of service relative to the subjects of the conference. When I finished, the top Marine BG JAG hosting the event (I wish I could remember his name) asked if my quarters were satisfactory, and of course I said they were perfectly fine, though commented the shower in my room was large enough to handle an entire patrol of men.  He looked over his glasses at me and said..... of course I don't know how the Air Force operates these days Captain, but there will be none of that sort of thing going on at Camp Pendelton.  This brought gales of laughter from all those assembled, including me.  (I'd walked right in to that one)

Of course he'd probably be relieved of command for such humor today.
