Yeah  its been a long time since a ride post

I spoke with Gman Friday on my way home and he said he needed to get on a bike so we picked today at 8 ish

At 930 I left him a cell phone message that I was leaving in 10 minutes because I had plans for this afternoon and evening and sure enough 9 minutes later I hear the potato potato sound of his chopper

Route 9A was closed southbound from the annsville circle clear to Briarcliff for a bicycle event  but north was open so we went north

It was a beautful morning as the heavy storms had moved thru overnight  The roads had some leaves and were damp where the sun was not reaching but it was but a minor thing  Temp around mid 70's lower humidity  A perfect day to ride

Gary had no windshield on the chopper  I took out my Valk as I felt real bad not riding it on 9-11
If you have ever seen the bike you know whats on my shield and how I got it

Anyway we moseyed up 9a to 9 and then up the goat trail to Bear Mountain Bridge (Traffic was ....well there was NO traffic in fact most of the time we saw no cars or motorcycles at all)
crossing it and taking 9W south to the entrance to Bear Mtn State Park and up the road past Perkins Drive which was closed, down the mountain road to pick up the Palisades Pkwy and at the circle took Seven Lakes Drive up to Tiorati Circle.  From there we headed thru the alpine lakes and went north on 106 which has been paved smooth as a baby's hiney  That is one of my favorite roads and at the end we took 17 north to Arden Hill Rd (which thank goodness was paved this year) and back over the switchbacks to the Tiorati Circle.  Had to slow way down at one point because of deer, the speed limit on most turns is 15 so it wasnt like I needed to pull a lot of brakes.  The road was still wet as the tree canopy is pretty dense in those hills.

There was a point where I ran over a tree branch across the road and had deja vu of my DesMoines adventure but the tire held and we headed back to the Bear Mtn bridge crossing it and heading north on 9D to Cold Spring, making a right on 301 and at 9 we went south 1/4 mile to the Texas BBQ

YUMMY Brisket BBQ sandwich slaw and fries then back to 301 east to the Taconic where I left Gary and blasted south arriving home just before 1pm  Yeah I exceeded the posted limits, big deal....

Most of my riding is solo but I will admit that riding with my friend is always fun. He rides faster on his Valk but I understand how it is when you have 2 bikes and just feel like riding the other one whether for more breeze without the windscreen or whatever reason

Just finished vacuuming the pool and a brief swim, gonna have to close it down soon, the leaves are falling already. Temp dropped from 87 to 80 in the pool in the last 2 days and I am not goin to turn on the heater.

So anyway the last ride of 5775 is in the books, tonight is a ride to moms for Rosh Hashanah dinner

I wish all of my vrcc family a happy, healthy year and ride safe everyone

DOWN to 80 ???

My pool hasn't been at 80 (the warmest it got this summer) since mid August (I live in a forest with no heater) - I did my daily 1/2 mile swim in 74 degree water this afternoon. I expect it to be down at 70 in a day or 2 - we'll see if it is warm enough to swim in on my birthday (Sep 25) - about half the time it's not.

Yes I badly want a heater - it's going to have to be a heatpump, because propane is too expensive.

A good bike, good food, good company and roads to run on makes for a great ride. Thanks for sharing, Evan!

I ride A LOT faster on my Valkyrie.  When I hit 65 on the chopper I feel like I'm sitting on top of a missile and I'm holding on for dear life.  I had to remove the visor from the helmet because the helmet strap was choking me at highway speed.  But it is a lot of fun on the back roads.
