So, I have a 98 tourer, original owner, 21,000 miles. I have toyed with selling her. Look around at classifieds and I see bikes for sale, but not much interest? Is there any value actually left in the old girl or does no one care anymore?

If you only have 21K on it, it should be easy to sell. You might ask $5K if you live in Vegas with no rust or paint issues.

Should be plenty of interest. Just hoping you're not going to a ho-hum V-Twin.

Look up KBB and NADA values as a guide.  See what similar units on eBay are actually selling for, not what they are listed at.  Actual sales are a good guide.  Don't expect to get over retail pricing unless of course you are a retailer and have serviced the bike, inspected it and made it ready for a retail purchase and all is good.  Condition, condition, and condition, among other things...and ultimately the purchaser determine value.

I'd start off at 6300 and go down from there but not let it go for sure under 5 grand.    The 5-6 grand range is about right, depending on location and condition/extras.

I know I wouldn't let my Valk I/S go for under 7 grand unless I needed the moola.

Besides condition condition and condition-HOW much unobtainium is on said machine?? I've seen price shifts with and with out the unobtainium. And trust me when I mention the fact that MOST folks here KNOW what unobtainium is worth!  2funny Good luck with yer sale!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Local dealer has a 2000 yellow and black standard with 21k for 5500. No photo on their site but I saw it and it is really nice.

Assuming your bike is in good running condition and is in excellent condition otherwise, 5200 -5500 would seem a fair market value.

I've had my 98 Tourer in the classifieds for quite a while at $5500.00 and not as much as a whisper. Set up solo with Ultimate seat and backrest, (have original seat and backrest as well-sixes go with it) new shield, chrome goodies and stock exhaust with piggies cut. Good rubber, passing lamps and has 36,000is on it. Serviced regularly. Still riding it so mileage is going up. Garage kept. Tank bib...Better shape than when I bought it. Jade and black. So there is my game. Haven't done the CL thing yet.

Absolutely correct.  I neglected to mention that.  Those unobtainium accessories might not mean squat to some, but for me and probably many more folks.....if priced equally.and equal in other respects....I'd take the accessory bike over the other hands down.

Now on a newer bike where accessories are still available, and reasonably priced, I might not give those accessories a second thought and not even consider them in the price.......but on a Valkyrie, different story.

I recently searched every Valkyrie in the States that was on Craigslist.   I would say roughly 300 ish bikes and the average price was 5000.  Most people think their bike is worth way more than it is.  Anything over 6500 for any model will be a hard sell in my opinion, I don't care what the mileage is or what doo-dads are on it.

Check Ebay competed listings, which will tell you what they have been going for lately.   Also spring time is the best time to sell,  riding fever and tax returns.   Fall and winter are the worst times to sell.

When selling on Craigslist I never put a price up.   That way you get curious people emailing you asking.   I save the email addresses and after a few weeks if it hasn't sold email them back with a reduced price.

does anyone think the new Valk and F6B has reduced our old Valks in pricing some in terms of resale?

I have seen sight unseen even at some dealers some Valk I/S's priced below 7 grand, even a few under 6 grand.  One I saw in person would take 5500 for, but needed some work to get it running as it should since I test drove it on consignment and needed new brakes and new tires ASAP along with some road rash on trunk and side saddle hard bags and kept getting stuck on me shifting between 1st and 2nd gear was annoying.

I always thought my Valk I/S would forever fetch for sure over 6 grand, but maybe not???  I know values do depreciate, but in all honestly,  what for under 6K can you buy in such a large touring bike?  maybe a VTX1800 or an older 1520cc Goldwing.    The bottom has to somewhat flatten out over time I would think?  After all, our bikes are about 15 years old already.  I bet most of us don't have vehicles we drive that old as a daily driver?

Saw a 2014 Valk at the dealer yesterday - 11,000K ... hard to pass that up if looking at that vs a bike 16 years old for half the price....

I like my Valk... plan on keeping it a few years... but the lure of a 1800 FI might be calling me. If in 3 years they come down to 8 K or so... I may be tempted to empty the savings and twist the wick.

Same here, but instead of new Valk,  the F6B since need the more luggage space, but the f6B instead of 8K in a few years will be 10-11K am sure.   Still a far cry from the 11-13K for new Valk and 14-17K or so for the new F6B.   I can deal with 10K, but not much more than that for sure.  I test drove a new F6B and am impressed overall except on all that plastic looking feel.
