LED Turn Signals on Tourer

I am looking for information on what others have done to fix this problem...ie...what did you use to make it all work right.

Here is the problem...We have been slowly converting Monica's bike to all LED turn signals.  We have the front signals converted to dual colors LEDs (white for running lights, amber for turn signals) and we have replaced the turn signal flasher with a LED compatible unit.  Last weekend, we attempted the last part....the rear bulbs...but had a major issue.  When we turned on either set of signals, all 4 would flash.  This weekend, with the help of BonS, we were able to determine that the problem is the Turn Signal Indicator Bulb in the headlight bucket.  Because of the low voltage threshold of the LEDs and the leakage through the indicator bulb, it is energizing all the signals...(which is an easy way to make 4-way flashers if you didn't want turn signals...:uglystupid2:)  So...what LED bulb did you use...what diode did you use...how did you solve this problem?

You need the diode kit.  Kuryakin makes on for about $7 that wires into that bulb on the dash.  What you are seeing is the power from the left moving through that bulb to the right and vice versa.
The kit is called something like a "diode kit for metric cruisers."  I installed it on my on ACE Tourer with no issues.  You could likely build the same thing cheaper but this is easy.

Essentially you ground one side of the indicator and place a diode on each of the left and right wires that go to the indicator.  This essentially wires it the way honda should have originally.

Why spend $7 for a Kuryakyn diode kit when you can get the same kit from superbrightleds for less than 1/3 the price?

My preferred is the Optronics ALEDFBP LED Flasher but any that is compatible with LEDs is fine.  It should be a 3-wire module and is plug and play with the stock unit.  Some of the others out there may even plug in with the same connector...but I didn't plan on going back to the stock flasher so I put connectors in of my own.

The most clever, and functional, fix I've seen was to use two LED's inside the original turn signal indicator lens. They're placed right and left in the housing to show which side turns are on. The anode of each led is wired to the right and left OEM wires and the cathode of each LED is wired to ground. No additional cutting of the harness or diodes are needed.

If you use 12 volt resistor-LED's then you don't need to add resistors in series with the LEDs.

When trying to find a flasher that would work on older vehicles I got pretty frustrated. I have at least 3 electronic flashers that seemed from the specs that would work. They didn't.
Thats why I now just use higher wattage/CP front bulbs that will fire a thermal flasher.
Thats all I did on the Valk also.

I just did this mod today.  Only took an hour.  Added two diodes one each from the blue & orange wires (Rt & Lft turn lines respectively), Joined together than feed one side of the flash indicator, and grounded the other side of the latter.  Used a standard LED flasher from Chrome Glow which had the correct loom for Hondas. P/N 13-306. $29.66 + ship - plug & play.  Tests OK with LEDs front & rear.

Just passing it on.  You can buy the diodes for like 25cents each and add some 18Ga wire and make it your self for under a buck if you want.

I've bought several styles of LED "bulbs" for different vehicles at www.autolumination.com  Great selection.  Get this 1156 red one and the clear lenses (link was posted here recently - search) and use the following relay circuit to wire it - works great. You don't need to change the rear pods to 1157 sockets to have run-brake-turn - this circuit will provide that with 1156 single-filiment style LED bulbs.  They also light up the whole lens with the side and end LED's, the light bounces off the reflector.
