I have gone crazier and almost blind going through potential Darkside tires for my Interstate.
I think I have narrowed it down to the General Altimax RT43 in 205/65/16 or
The Hankook Optimo 426 in 205/65/16.
I think the Hankook tire (UTQG 380AA) is way softer rubber but I can't find the UTQG rating for the General. I am also not sure if the softer rubber would handle any better. I just don't know.
I would appreciate if anyone has any experience with these tires or even an opinion to share it.

I'm sure they'd both be fine. They look about as neutral as you can get in an asymmetrical tire. But why get an asymmetrical tread pattern when there are symmetrical options?
I'm pretty sure most of us Altimax riders are on the symmetrical HP. It's a very good tire and I recommend it, but a quick search suggests it's not being offered now (anymore?).

Had an Altimax. I'm on an A T T-Austone Taxi Tire-now and has to be THE best D/S tire I've run so far. B T W-near as I can tell over 71000 D/S miles RIDE SAFE.

The Austone is a 175R16 tire and about 1 inch taller than a stock MC tire (26.9 overall diameter). You'll run about 500-700 rpm less at any given speed in 5th gear. It also lifts the back of the bike a bit making it turn in easier, and the narrow width makes for minimal "bump steer".
I though it worked great while I had one... also pulled a Uni-go trailer with one several times without problems.

I think there are a few running the Hankook tires here . Seems to me Smokin Joe or someone else that rides with that group has them. Maybe they will chime in . Do a search for Hankook in the meantime and it might pop up.

When I put my taxi tire on, I measured the original tire diameter and the taxi tire diameter and as I remember the difference was about one inch as you state. The difference in RPMs as I remember was considerably less than 200 at 70 MPH. The RPM difference will be greater the faster you go and less for slower speeds. The speedometer error will be increased by about 2 MPH at 70 MPH as the front wheel will turn faster at any given speed. You will see increased bike lean on the side stand compared to the original tire. Another difference you will notice is that the bike is easier to get up on the center stand if you have one.  |

I was thinking of using the rear D404 on the front which is a SMALLER diameter tire which will affect the speedometer. The other comments I made are correct.  |

Ive run 205/60, 205/65, and now 195/60. It seems the "65" fit with the most clearance. I think maybe the taller tire lines up better with the dimple in the shaft housing ? |

Thanks guys for all the help.
I finally decided on the General Altimax RT43. One reason is I could not find the Hankook 205/65/16 on the Tire Rack site. I could find the 205/60 but not the 65.
Mr. Whiskey served it up to me. I just could not find it with my blindness from looking at tires and more tires.
If the General doesn't work well, I will get the Hankook.
