I can't believe there's a part 2 but there is. There's a curvy hilly 25 mph road 1/4 miles from the house and I drive it a lot sometime just taking the long way home. This time I'm on my ducati trying to run out the gas before i put it up for the winter. The road starts out going up a hill then flattens out at the top and then down a long downhill . I'm just about to crest the downhill and can't see whats coming in the other direction .You guested it a funeral procession with a hearst leading with a yellow flashing light on top coming up the hill. Thats when I see the same M.C. escort trying to pass the procession in my lane going at least 50mph . Now there is the hearst the escort on a full dressrer road bike and me on a small 2 lane road with culverts on both sides. I pull over and get 6 inches from the culvert and he flys past me and misses me by maybe a foot . Now this is in my lane and he's trying to pass the procession on a blind hill .I  think this guy is out of control and a danger to anyone he happens to cross paths with. I was paying attention and it was close if i'd have been in a car there would probably another funeral scheduled for a few days ahead and and add in the paper for a M.C. escort. I 'm a safe very defensive driver been riding 50 + years never encountered anything like this guy . Just thought id share my experience. I lived to tell the tale.

I don't remember from the 1st incident if you talked to the authorities. Even if you did I think another talk is in order. If he's doing as you describe its just a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

P G R escorts are Required to follow ALL traffic laws. I do not KNOW about other jurisdictions BUT here in my area with a lot of situational awareness we are allowed to block intersections. That passing in a no passing zone like you described-  uglystupid2 I'd make an effort to find out exactly who this guy is his affiliation and take steps to get it remedied before he offs himself other folks. If he is P G R He WILL be brought up by the short hairs quickly.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I have not talked to the police . After the first incident I wrote it off as he didn't see me on the slow curve . Even when he motioned for the car to pull out across my path I thought he didn't see me so end of story.  But this incident passing the procession on a blind hill Is just too much. Monday I'll go to the police dept and see what an be done. I fairly sure it was a victory mc medium blue and silver. It's hard to know what to do at the time chasing down a funeral procession didn't seem like a good idea.

I believe this is the funeral escort you ran into as it is just outside of Dayton.

The contact information for the Ride Captain for the mission as well as the State Captain contact info is in the link below

https://www.patriotguard.org/showthread.php?410864-Maj-Kathleen-O-Beekman-68-USAF-(RET)-Beavercreek-OH-13-NOV-15

As a Ride Captain myself I have run into folk who will, without any warning, permission or discussion, just decide to take it upon themselves in the middle of an escort to become a road blocker or do something, while well intentioned, kind of disastrous or nearly so. Pisses me off to no end.

I've been a participant in some PGR missions in a State I won't mention (Not mine) that I wonder how these guys ever survived. That was a few years back. Lots of stupidity and bravado.
100+ bike escort at interstate speed in pretty close formation getting passed ON THE RIGHT by an assigned "road guard" trying to get ahead of the group to block off the next on ramp.

Yeah, nothing can possibly go wrong there.

Anyway, you ought to follow up with the RC and up to the State Captain and let them know what you experienced. Let them know they might want to review their policies before someone gets injured or killed. Also, if you think it warranted, a discussion with the local and regional Law Enforcement. I'd bet they would be glad to "pass the word".

Yeah chasing him down would have been the wrong thing to do. IMHO the responsible thing to do at this point would be to explain to the police both instances in a calm manner and let them handle it.

I don't think I would go thru the RC. For all Edvalk knows it might even be him. I would think the cops would be better off handling this.

I have to disagree on not chasing him down. I would have turned around and followed the whole procession and if need be parked quietly and not disturbed the funeral but me and mr.Ahole would have had a long  tickedoff all the while waiting on the police I would have called.

I wish I would have turned around and followed him as you described. I'll talk to local PD and let everyone here know what they said. Thanks for all the replys.

I might have done just that.  Smiley I'm just thinking in hindsight it was a wiser move not to chase him down. I'm sure had I have done that I would have raised my voice more than once. That's not how I would want the funeral of a parent, child, or friend to go down. I'm glad I wasn't faced with that dilemma .  Smiley

Here's an update . Talked to local PD but they couldn't do anything but agreed some escorts are dangerous. Went to the closest cemetery and told them the story and they gave me the two funeral homes that had funerals on that day. So I went to one of them they said they contract with 3 different escort company's and gave me their names . Just got off the phone with the second of the three and they were friendly and helpful but no one with my description of the bike works for them . The third companys number is disconnected . So I quess I will just have to keep an eye out for him and if I do see him again I'm following the procession to wherever it go's . The lady at the cemetery said the escort just gos with the procession till it reaches the cemetery gates  and then they are done.

The escort rider "knows" that he is in the right.

If you confront him he will assume you are a "road rager" and may defend himself before any reasonable conversation can begin.

Be careful.

You are right . Anyone willing to drive like that and take those  kind of chances is probably mentally unstable anyway . I'm just going to let it go . I will add it to the long list of things I have to watch out for on the road. Thanks for all the replys .......Ride safe
