Actually, Ali was quite militant in his hey-day as a member of the Nation of Islam.  He had plenty of not-so-nice things to say about caucasians.  When he found out Elijah Muhammed was a fraud, Ali put his tail between his legs and became a "nice guy" so he could book fights again.

I'll never understand why it is that so many people who consider themselves, "Enlightened" always seem to resort to "Middle School" name calling.
