Chris you really need to pray against this accident prone streak you have had lately. I am...seriously LOL! Robert and Jeff, better than to pray for protection from an accident prone streak is to pray that we would learn the lessons intended from the "accidents" that happen to us as they do. I do sometimes pray for God's protection for me and those I love but I also pray thanks for the unexpected events that have occurred to bring me to where I am.

Unless you practice a lot, a revolver is MUCH simpler, and safer.

Gotta agree on that. I've gone to J-frame Smith .357's as preferred carries. Small package, plenty of power, very safe, easy to conceal, absolutely reliable. Carry a couple of them in different positions and you can handle any kind of position and draw. Double action, can operate in either mode.

Maybe I should've only addressed Robert. The LOL was my effort to make it light hearted but with a very serious message. I wish you well, Jeff.

I know I am making progress because, Monday when I got the big splint off I tried to grip the throttle and squeeze the brake handle...IT HURT. Today I can do it! Of course I can only use the last two fingers but it doesn't hurt to operate the throttle and brake Zoom Zoom pretty soon

Wow Jeff , just saw this and am glad you are healing quickly. Your courage to tell the story may be just what some of us need to bring the awareness to the surface again, and take the time to follow the procedures.

Jeff, I just wanted add my thoughts for a rapid healing. I would think living in Florida and not being able to ride (assuming your weather is better than our 6" of new snow) would hurt more than your finger! Tom

Good news. My Dr is no longer talking about a possible amputation, the healing is progressing great, I can actually operate the throttle and brake handle with no problem/pain.
I see the Dr in a week from today and I expect he will graduate me from the splint. That means its time to get it moving. What better way to get it moving than to do the brake and throttle on the Valkyrie......... Can't wait

Many thanks for having the courage to post this, it may save someone else a world of hurt. Hope you heal quickly and completely.
When I was in my early twenties, a co-worker asked me to repair an old 25 cal Beretta his Dad had picked up in WW2. It had been left who knows where and was rusted solid. I had never owned a handgun at that time. I got it freed up, made a new spring, and like an idiot was cycling rounds through it in my living room to see if it would feed, it did. I dropped the mag, was sure I had racked the slide and unloaded the chamber, then fired a round through the back of my couch.
No one was injured, the couch was crap like all my "early poverty" furniture and the round stopped in the wall.
To this day, close to forty years later, I think about that nearly every time I handle a pistol.

Oh, yeah...for sure gruesome has many levels. Viewing pics of Jeff's finger was much easier to take than a buddy who just today sent me a pic of himself post surgery with no shirt on---proudly sporting his new colostomy bag.

I'm glad to see your healing up ,that's a tough lesson there. When I started carrying full time I never liked loading and unloading an auto inside the house(no safe direction to aim).Needing a safe way to do this I finally came up with a solution.I found four big philly phone books and taped them together with packing tape.I placed it just inside a closet door near my gunsafe. Now all loading and unloading is done with my barrel aimed at the stack of books. Now that it's become habit I feel much safer.

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, hopefully it's temporary. He's been battling a bout of colon cancer and the prognosis is good. He's a factory service man that I get to work with a couple times a year. But he's the type that delights in sending you sick(gross) emails. I think everyone has one of those types of buddies.

Breaking News. Ok bad pun. Just saw my Dr. He indeed graduated me from the splint. The riding glove feels really good and throttle and brake operation will be acceptable as soon as I get the index finger moving fully, it was in the splint long enough with the hurt one, it doesn't want to bend so good just yet. Friday is supposed to be the best wx all week. I should have the hand ready for a ride by then

Hot Dog........I'm pretty darned happy. When I got home from the Dr, I sat on the Valkyrie to see if actually riding was possible in the near future, or a pipe dream.
Ok, so at noon, I could not tighten the index finger around the throttle. Bummer, and...the injured finger would not easily bendcenough to clear the brake handle while moving from the throttle to the brake.
After only eight hours, I can now grip the throttle with ALL fingers, even the injured one (although lightly) and it easily bends as to clear the brake handle.
It's supposed to rain for a couple days, so I have that time to get even stronger

Just keep working it and work it till it hurts, dont try to make it hurt just work work work and when it hurts, STOP!! dont force it cause you dont want to cause any internal injurys that you have not already caused,, you should be ready to ride saturday,, thats what i had to do when i had my crash to heal my shoulder that got busted up pretty good..and my knee..

There aren't too many law enforcement offices in this country that don't have a hole some place. Ceiling, floor, wall, desk, some place. This happens to anyone. My boss shot a hole through the front door of the dept believing his gun was empty. It wasn't! Made himself sick over what he thought could have happened if someone was coming into the station. This was the main entrance.

My normal winter gloves are real soft deer leather with soft insulite, they just feel good. Judy hasn't warmed up to the idea of me riding so soon. Tomorrow is five weeks and its just s finger. It's not like I broke my neck. We'll get there... Slow and steady. Slow and steady
