What does the TSA, at every airport around the country (world) do with all of the full size tubes of toothpaste, full size cans of shaving cream, bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and any other liquid containers deemed to large to bring on an airplane for fear of blowing it out of the sky?
They can't give it to the poor, or to any other charitable organization, right? The stuff has already been deemed dangerous and was confiscated, so how can you give it away? What happens if the shampoo "goes off" in the person's shower?
So if it's too dangerous, how do they store it? Where do they store it? Are they storing potentially explosive materials in dumps or land fills around the country? Where else would all the tons and tons of confiscated toiletries go? And if one persons toiletries can bring down a plane, what would hundreds of thousands of peoples confiscated toiletries bring down?

I believe the liquids they have the passenger just toss into the nearest trashcan instead of allowing it through (Evidently they're not worried about exploding water bottles as long as they're not inside the secure area of the airport.)
The knives and other sharp, pointy thing they would collect and I believe they were sold off by the pound. (My dad was a TSA supervisor until he retired a few years ago.)
The whole "it might be a bomb so put it in that trashcan that has hundreds of people walking around it" thing is silly, but if you think about it, even a small explosive inside of an airplane at 40,000 feet can do catastrophic damage, whereas a small explosive would theoretically not be nearly as damaging in a trashcan, even in a crowded airport.
At least, that's the theory... I guess...
It's all security theater anyway though. There are many ways a dedicated person, wanting to die for their cause, could get around it.

Agreed it's all theater. How do we know that there's only one small explosive in the trash can?? They took the entire contents of that 50 gallon trash can away from people because ALL OF IT was deemed too dangerous to take on board a plane. A trash can going off at the checkpoint to get into the gate could kill more folks than on one plane. I was really just trying to show the utter nonsense and the hoops they make citizens jump through in the name a security. And yet, there never has been an exploding trash can, nor have they even caught anyone trying But they get a failing score every time they are tested/audited. Every time. |

TSA is a joke. We had an incident with them last Wednesday. Got pulled out of line for not having checked bags. Female agent had a real attitude. Told her I was not informed checked bags we're required, but she could give me $250 to cover the cost of checking empty bags if that would make the flight safer and make her feel important  Also related how experienced travelers know the benefits of traveling light, and I had all I need in my carry on. Pissed me off. They want to charge for bags, claiming it cost more fuel (right), then single you out for being efficient The attitude of the beotch was the worst part. I know some DHS honchos and am still thinking of reporting her, but I know it will come out as "she was doing her job..." At least we can all sleep better knowing TSA is there to protect us  |

I will not fly any more unless I absolutely have too - and the TSA is a LARGE reason why. I had a nearly new bottle of mouth rinse flouride that they made me throw away - and this was at a time when we were really watching our spending tightly.
Not to mention that they are essentially useless in their purported mission.
If I DO have to fly - I won't have checked baggage either - carryon for a day or 2, and ship my main baggage via FedEx / UPS to my destination (so I can be sure it gets there in time).

My wife once had a small bottle of maple syrup she was trying to bring home from Vermont. Good thing thing TSA is there watching for threats, huh? They let her put it in stowed luggage instead of her carry on, but they were really grumpy about it. Probably wouldn't do that these days. |

I saw a report where a TSA agent confiscated a nail file from an airline pilot going through security to get to his next flight. The pilot said, do you really think I need this nail file to crash the plane? He received a reprimand after the TSA made an issue about it.

That's pretty stupid. ANd the pilot shouldn't have gotten a reprimand for being right. The TSA needs to go away. After all, they didn't catch the underwear or the shoe bomber, both made it onto the plane and the passengers caught them. Although back then, it may have just been security, not TSA.
