I watched an interview with Bernie Sanders yesterday. His favorite saying was: "It goes without saying". What does that mean? Nobody says it, or, everybody knows it? That statement is difficult. It's like someone saying, "whatever" when asking for an answer to something. What does "whatever" mean?

It's a crutch dim people use to try and appear intelligent.
Same as:
"uh", "you know", "having said that", "basically", literally","at the end of the day", - all just filler with no meaning. Its a long list
If you really listen to people speak, you realize the words they use often give the opposite meaning than intended.
Like - "I cannot say enough good things about that person"...

However the dumb witted will settle for these useless phrases. Most often used by the left or progressives, socials and or commies, however the right has there share also. When you hear a politician say these things almost always the case is the opposite. Everyone agrees Right  |
