As an avid shooter, I watch most any show with/about firearms and many Utubes are very informative.

The last few years, there has been way too much shooting stuff full of bombs, flames, and explosions, usually followed by whooping and hollering.

I was raised and taught that the object of the enterprise was careful placement of the bullet on target (or leading a clay pigeon).  I am impressed with Jerry Miculek shooting a mag in 2 seconds into a 6" group, or a Wimbledon Cup shooter grouping at 1000 yds.  Shooting into ballistic gelatin is informative, as is 50BMG penetrating plate steel.  If you want to blow stuff up, doing it with firearms seems unnecessary (since marksmanship does not seem to be the principle object), and it does not exactly make for good 2d Amend press stories/coverage.

One could expect to see the headline for this story as...... Man Blows Off Own Leg With Rifle.  (typically inaccurate)

Don't get me wrong, I like blowing stuff up as much as the next guy, but how about a fuse (with enough time to get out of the blast zone)?

My son is a member of a gun group that likes to shoot things up.   A few weeks ago, they were using aerosol cans of brake cleaner as targets because it was easy to tell if they actually hit the target and the resulting boom was obvious.

So I suggested and then gave him a couple of cases of bottled water to shoot at.   I'm told it's not nearly as exciting but, I feel better about what they are doing now.

Reminds me of "hold my beer and watch this" moments.

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

I love Tannerite (And it's generic equivalents), I've got about 50 pounds of it at my shooting spot that I slowly dole out a little at a time, but enough of these idiots do stupid things with it and government's gonna swoop in and protect us from ourselves soon enough...

We shot a 5 gallon bucket full of it a couple years ago. Had an old chevy pickup we dragged into the field with a tractor and put the bucket under the oil pan of the truck. Shot it from 250 yards with a 30-06. The shock wave off of it was enough to knock 3 windows out of my buddies house and his 125' barn looked like a wave because it dented the tin sidding. People were calling the cops because they thoight a bomb went off. Blew a 4' deep crater X 8' and demolished the truck, whole truck went about 30' in the air and the engine came completly oit and landed about 200 feet from its original location. This stuff in large quantities is dangerous but very fun. No one got hurt and this has not been attempted again.

Grin yes it did. We were 250 yards away and did not expect anything near that huge, we were just lucky no shrapnel came our way. My buddies wife was not impressed, blew out windows of a house not even 2 months old.
