Safety Steve

Big BF, I have a 1997 standard that I have since put corbin beetle bags on and a Woody's fairing, I would love to have you go over my baby and giver her a tune up and just make sure she is running like she should.
Ok here is the kicker I live in Richland, WA and I'm working in Soda Spring, ID till November I have my bike with me and I'm planning on going to Sturgis this year.
If you can't make it anywhere close to me I understand.

Having spent 13 hours sleeping I have risen from the dead (groggy as hell).

It was with a heavy heart and a slow wave that I stood in the street and watched the Big BF caravan slowly depart my neighborhood late yesterday afternoon, once again (4-years ago too).  After four long days of laboring over my two aging but remarkable flat six monsters, and a couple more for several other local machines, it was time for him and his trusty sidekick Aussie (the Australian Shepard) to depart for greener pastures and further adventures.  He is a remarkable and friendly dog who wants to forever be by his master's side.  After getting to know him and feeding him a little bit, he even let me back inside my own house (kidding).

Among all the other routine maintenance he performed (that I never seem to get around to, and add up), he did the timing belts and rebuilt 4 tensioner pulleys and relpaced a trigger wheel, did two complete rear end services (right in the middle of car tire longevity), discovered a U-joint that was not quite right (long before I would ever have discovered it), discovered dry, but mostly undamaged shafts and cups, put in a couple high end speakers I'd had sitting in a box for 10 years, put on two spanking new Clearview shields to replace the aging OE shields with sidewings that were getting hard to see through (with a handful of new fairing anchors), got rid of a CB splitter and extra wiring that did nothing for my FM reception, added a voltmeter, upgraded and cleaned my brakes, rebuilt a pair of my chronically leaking forks, replaced two radiator caps which had taken serious sets in the (now hardened) rubber over 17 years which will eventually lead to leaks, replaced my four headlight bulbs, gave me new carb synchs with new electronic wizardry, replaced all my smog caps, replaced a shifter seal, cleaned and lubed my main fuses, and fixed and tweaked a dozen other small maladies which were uncovered in the process.  I spent my days cleaning and scrubbing up all uncovered things, helping, staying out of the way, and learning .... so that's how you do that.

He seriously depleted my stores of backup parts, and despite my best efforts to have everything on hand we would need, managed to produce the dozen other parts needed from his trailer that I did not have.

Met Bills wife again, and met and visited with his brother Thad several times.

It was very good seeing and visiting with you again my friend.  Take care of yourself and your sidekick.  May the road rise up to meet you, and the wind be always at your back.  :cooldude:

Bills adventures on the road put me in mind of Steineck's 1960 book, Travels With Charlie, In Search of America.

Oss

Bill I got your texts and sent you detailed PM

I really recommend taking 83 to 81 to 84 and crossing Newburgh Beacon Bridge  maybe save $70 or more because of # of axles you have

Yes its gonna burn 4 gallons more but less traffic and tolls

Let me know what day you coming please

Update: I'm still in Pocomoke City MD. I was working on my truck replacing the center support (driveshaft center bearing mount) it was worn out but I decided to replace the 3 new U-joints and I also found out the 4 bolt that hold driveshaft on rear diff was loose and then found out the flange was warped so I'm waiting for Ford dealer to open on Tuesday and hopefully they have it in stock.
While I wait over the weekend and holiday, I'm rebuilding two set of Valk carb to get ready for next on the road.

Sure
It's going to be a fee for it but where to?
Let me know.

If you ever get the urge to see the Pacific Northwest (Seattle), I've got a driveway long enough for your camper, and a guest room as well.
I've never let another mechanic touch my baby, but with your rep? I'd love to have a professional give my bike a once-over.

Copy of me message in Oss' 'BF Rocks Ossining' thread...   Want to be sure that this circulates.

It was fortuitous that I traveled 46+ miles north to Oss' (much appreciate you and Bonnie hosting Bill and allowing me to hangout all day yesterday.) .  Bill discovered a leak in the primary fuel line and a hole in the petcock's diaphragm!!!

Bill also rebuilt and cleaned the brake calipers, replaced the 6 'O' rings and sync'd the carbs.

Bike is REAL smooth and the pick-up is awesome and most importantly, safe to use.

Many thanks Bill!!!

I have room for all your stuff, you can have your own private room/bath and even fish in the lake (if you like doing that)  :cooldude:

Dang Bill, I think you are going to have to raise your rates. There seems to be an overwhelming demand for your services. But wait till after this winter, I would like for you to replace my timing belts. I'm too chicken after hearing of others mishaps with it.  :)

In Seattle? It's a long way up there and I have no plan on going there. I know many people from Canada and northwest of USA coming over my place to work on their Valk and Goldwing....
Sorry I may not going up there unless there's Inzane going to be up there but I doubt that will happen.

When are you coming to Chesapeake??  How long will you be here?  Have you found a place to park yet?

556ALPHA

I have some work that could be done but I am waiting for BigBF to get back to me.  I posted an idea about a group session in the Hampton Roads  thread to make it worth his time if each individual does not have a lot to do which may make it a better option.

Now my trip toward Hershey PA but not going for candies at this time. That route I go from here has no toll I think so I'm going that way then go down to south of Baltimore MD. To see my brother and a guy may want me to swap overhaul carburetors. I'll stay 2-3 more day to see my brother. Next trip to Chesapeake VA.  Anyone need me on my way down from Middletown NY...

I am the person communicating with you in VA Beach.   We frequently call our area Hampton Roads (regional thing as we are not a county). Some call it the 7 cities.  Va Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton, Suffolk, Portsmouth I guess is the last.  We are all very close to each other along with a few other cities close by like Poquoson and Williamsburg.

BIG COUNTRY 23321

Hey there Everybody!!!! Just wanted to let you know that Bill got to my house in Chesapeake, Va. late last night after creeping in that god awful Washington DC traffic. He is currently working on my " DEATH HORSE " !!!! He will be here a few more days before heading out down south if you need him to stop by send him a message. He is truly a great mechanic and I am proud to call him my friend. He rebuilt my carbs and added a lot of stuff on my Valk back in 2012 and did an awesome job. Aussie is an amazing dog and she is very spoiled with treats and A/C!!!!  :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude:

Big Country, a few of us are trying to meet up for a ride some time, are you interested?  We haven't nailed down a date or rendezvous yet.

BF, I wish the timing had been different.  I would love for you to look over my bike and work some of your magic.  I bought some of your horns awhile back and they're still working awesomely!  Looks like I'll probably have to catch up with you another time.

Wrong timing? Your very close to here or I could come over either way and I will be going south few miles from you for another Valk as well. I would guess you're out of town??

Let me know what's your available and we will see what work for both of us?

I'm working long hours (standing duty tomorrow) and will be heading out of town for the weekend.  I know that 556Alpha was also hoping to get some work done.  He just got his Valk not long ago and would like an expert opinion on its condition.

Where is your next stop? Are you going to be in the area for a few more days?

Bill rolled into town late Sunday night and left today around 4pm from my house. His mechanical knowledge is so superior for our Valk's and my Death Horse is running tip top again. He even installed his Quad Horns on my 1965 Buick Wildcat Convertible and fixed a GFCI switch/ outlet in my bathroom. It was great seeing you again my friend and my house is always open and you are welcome anytime !!!! Safe Travels
