First LONG ride completed..

My Bday weekend ride ended at a local Irish pub near my home.  600+ mi. up and across cheesetown..dodged some thunderstorms..spent the night in Baraboo...  All and all a ton of fun.  The bike performed flawlessly, and with 6400mi. now on the odometer, she is really starting to come into her own.  Man the way that thing sounds at 70 or so...just howling away...and the  5th gear throttle roll ons to pass vehicles...like being on a jet airplane!  My ONLY complaint is the seat.  Me butt gets sore after 100 mi. or so...  The highway pegs made a difference too in comfort.  Was able to stretch out the legs for a different feel...sometimes one peg, sometimes two.. back to the stock position...all new and interesting.

Gonna do it again before it gets too cold!

Corbin seats are nice, I could only do about an hour ride on the stock seat then I would feel it for 2 days, with the Corbin I can go for 3+ hous then do it again the next day.

And when you go lpoking for pegs look into the revco flip out pegs, they look like part of the engine when they are put away and sit just right for me. Some guys don't like where they sit even with 3 adjustment places but I'm very happy with them.

Get the seat first and for those looking for a set of highway pegs I have a set laying orotund here somewhere that I pulled off my Goldwing before I traded it.

They have the switchblade pegs on them. Better for someone since they have the long 6" arms from kuryakyn. I will try to find the and clean them up for some pics. I just looked and they list for $198 before the switchblade pegs.

I got my custom seat a month ago and it completely changed my riding experience .
It's like a new bike , should of done it day one .

It's the most important addition you can make , right after a tall wind shield to deflect the rocks and bugs and flying road  debris

Yeah , sure , I sent the seat off on a Monday , got it back the following Monday .
Around $800 .

The photos on his site  are better than what I have , still , will try and take better ones to post .

My seat still needs an adjustment and will probably send it back or maybe do a "ride in "  later in the year.
He is 7 hours away from me

You could always get a Corbin , they are made from stone !

The Corbin may look better ,but it's  not nearly as functional/comfortable

They are not rock hard if you ask Corbin not to make it rock hard.  Surprise!  Ask and you shall receive.

I had mine made softer and it is surprisingly nice.

My guess would be most of those people didn't know how firm those seats are until after they get them, and by then they figure it's too late to change it. A few are either aware or were able to actually try one before buying to know enough to ask for softer foam.

But everyone I know who's had a Corbin has noted how firm they are, though not all were necessarily complaining. Because besides being known for being unusually firm, Corbins are also know to 'break in' and mold to the rider's butt after a few or several hundred miles, making most of those complaints fairly short-lived.

I think what is happening is that Corbin, like all too many in this curse-ed industry, think that every rider is 6 foot and 240 pounds, and that's what the seats are designed for.  From the firm foam to the rearward seating position, it all screams "big fat rider"  

Since I'm neither big nor fat, I pay attention to these things and simply looked up owner reviews of Corbin seats.  1 or 2 owners mentioned softer foam, so when I called to order I told them my concerns and, most importantly, my body weight and height.  They fully adjusted the seat to suit.

And that's the story.  It has only some to do with knowing you can ask and just as much to do with actually talking to the Corbin order taker and telling them about yourself - height, weight, riding style and any concerns you may have.  They'll actually talk to you about options and what can be done.

It's a matter of putting 2+2 together.  Corbin offers customization services but most people think that you must go in to Corbin to get it.  A little "educated consumer" research before buying - and you do educate yourself before buying things, yes? - shows this is not true, Corbin is willing to customize over the phone.

Order off the rack, get off the rack fit.  If you're not an off the rack fit...say something!

The thing is , Corbin makes the best looking seats , hands down , so nice  it distracts your eyes from the bike .  If I cared more about looks , like a show bike  , I would  definitely  have a Corbin  .



Corbin probably sells more seats than anyone  , but not all their seats are for comfort , they are for  aesthetics  ,  Yes , I am sure they make seats for comfort  but it seems  some forget  that part and just go for the aesthetics , assuming it will be more comfortable , and then they complain about the hardness or the way it fits on the bike or what ever  , and Corbin says to give it 2500 miles to break in , what I wonder , the seat or your butt or maybe both .

Asking for softer foam most likely  not do the trick  for comfort ,  my seat is kind of hard , but , it supports my entire butt with no pressure points  and that's the problem with Corbin , people go  for the aesthetics and not the comfort  a well shaped seat designed to support your butt for long distance

Few have stated the Russell day long looks good , but no one states that they are uncomfortable , no one.  The idea that a seat will give you comfort   for long distance comes down to the way the  seat is formed to support the butt  with no pressure points , the bowl , , where my butt sits
There's a bunch of companies  that make seats for all day long comfort and not so much  for aesthetics  .

I am, overall, very pleased with my Corbin Gunfighter Custom.  Upon initial use I was concerned that I did the wrong thing by getting "nose job", as I initially felt a bit underwhelmed in the thigh support area, but when I switched to a set of flat-soled riding boots the first huge pothole that I had to step into reinforced the wisdom of the decision.

Now, admittedly, I took multiple breaks and I've added Mick-O-Peg DD's for comfort, but the longest I've been in the Corbin was 11.5 hours on July 5th and I'm truly thankful I had it, otherwise I'd never had made it home.



I'll get a real photo of her one day, I promise    I'm too busy riding her except for the rotten weather we're having - it looks like I'll only be able to get 11,000 miles into her first year because it won't stop raining!

Hey what kinda shield is that on your Valkyrie?  I like the way it looks from the front .  How does it work for wind protection?  I have a few changes  in store for my Valkyrie.  I love my Corbin dual too. I didn't  request softer cushioning  it's  fine as is for me. Again, any other seat is better than the stock seat.

I got my Socal foglights and finally received  the Admore cable/module.  Those  guys at Admore  Lightning are the best .  I had to give them a shout out. I didn't  realize they  were located in Canada.  For anyone looking to purchase  the cable/module for the SoCal lights  I understand  they only had a couple left. So, hurry if you're interested I am not sure if they will make any more. Ask for Tom if anyone  is interested.

I didn't want to ruin the 'theme' of the bike, Goldwing "Sport", so I ran with that and kept it more on the "standard" or "light tourer" end of design rather than take it towards "cruiser".  I like light tourers anyway, full dress has just gotten too big for my tastes, so I really love this bike   What's not to love?  220 mile range, 1kW+ alternator, torque up the wazoo, built like a tank, 7 year warranty, stupid-level reliability.

The prefect real-world light-tour distance bike?  Could be...

I wanted the Corbin bags but, due to living conditions I bought the Honda bags and, like the seat, glad I did - the Corbins would probably be scratched up by now.

Hey Kidd, what do you think about those Mic-O's?  I'm debating on getting those or the Ergo 3's.  Also, it's hard to tell from the pics, but do you have some sort of dual peg arrangement on the Mic-O's?  Looks kinda like there's an upper one and a lower one.

I thought the back end was taut but sporty.  Then, as per this site, I reduced my preload by about 1/2 turn and I'm very happy, I find my back end prefect, not to stiff at all.  Maybe I'm closer to the designed-in rider's weight spec.

Yeah, 11.5 hours.  Actually, now that I think about it, I did 12 hours a couple of week before. Not my longest days, which was 18 hours to cover 960 miles.  I guess I take my riding seriously

Time to change out the stock Dunlops, they have some life left but I want the benefit of the Michelins.  The Dunlops can give a bit of a butt pucker on tar snakes in turns.

Damn cursed tar snakes. I hit a bunch yesterday turning off a main drag onto another road. I knew they were there and thought I had slowed down enough, but it was pretty warm and my front tire still caught one just right and did a little dipsy-doo. I'm not sure if any tire would have fared better, but those godforsaken things don't do anything to install confidence. I hate 'em.

That's strange and may be during high speed: everyone else notes how accurate the speedo is.  Mine is GPS confirmed, anything below 90 MPH is accurate to within 0.75 MPH.

It's a relatively new phenomenon around here.   Like only in the past several years.  I do not remember them in the past years...but recently they pop up everywhere.  I think I need to contact some local authorities with a wtf?  Motorcycling is popular in these parts...I am sure there it would get allot of support.  I think their downright dangerous...
