Please Help - I have a 97 Valkyrie. I just did oil change, and new plugs.  Rode it a few times, bike ran awesome!  Started it the other day, rode about a block, and all of a sudden no power to right side. (No sounds from pipes) [I have Cobra 6 into 6] I made it home under extremely low power, and a few stalls, and I checked plugs, and all seem fine. No fouling.  What would cause a loss to 1 side completely?  I'm at a complete loss as to how to look at this, and the dealer will Certainly bend me over for probably a simple cure.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!!

As silly as it sounds, my money is on fuel delivery.

OEM petcock?  If so, when was the last time you replaced the cover set (diaphragm, etc) and checked the vacuum line?

I too think I'd look at the fuel fuel supply right after a compression test just for peace of mind.

First thing to do is let people know where you are. That way maybe someone can give you a hand.
With the engine not running and cooled off, have you opened the carb drains one at a time for the right side to see if they have gas in them?

At first I thought coils... but those run 1 coil to opposing cylinders.  So, only losing one side can't be coils.

I'd have to think fuel (as others have already said).

When you checked the plugs, were they wet?  Running on 3 cylinders for any amount of time would put enough fuel in there to at least make it noticeably moist.

Did you wash it or get it wet? Check the weep holes for the plugs. Mud dobbers can plug them up and short them out.

Thanks,

I Did wash the bike at the end of the previous day. Then, the next morning is when it happened.  How do I check this for the reason?

Sorry, new to forums. I'm not sure how to reply to a single reply, so I'm just updating at the end of all of the replies: I live in Bethlehem, PA to answer another message.  I have not deep dived into the bike yet, as I am not with the bike until Sunday. I was just trying to get somewhere to start to dig in once I get home.  Thank you again to all.  I at least can research these potential issues, and try and get the bike going again.  If anyone is on the Bethlehem, PA area, by all means feel free to let me know and I will definitely be open for help.  (Paid of course) Thanks!!

pull your spark plug boots. There are drain holes down in there that could get clogged. Doesn't seem like all three would be clogging at the same time, but maybe. Being that you said you checked the plugs and they were not fouled, I'm betting on a fuel problem.

If you have a leaf blower, try running it all over the bike; when I take my Valk to the car wash, it develops electrical gremlins that can take a while to correct themselves. Just a thought, I could be just all wet...  Shocked

How many miles are on this bike?
Has anything been done internally?
Has the timing belt been changed.
What fuel are you using?
How's the throttle feel?
I'm sure there's a million other questions that could be asked.

You came to the right place to ask questions, I'm no expert but, there are some here.   Give them some clues.

all of a sudden no power to right side. (No sounds from pipes)
Whole bank dead all at once.
First thought, broke timing belt.
I really hope that's not it Bro.

Thats why I recommended a compression test, just in case.

Also the points about checking the drain holes and opening the carburetor drains checking for fuel flow are good ideas.

That was my fear also but, not being an expert, I didn't want to suggest it.
Possibly a broken cam?   Is it possible for the cam pulley to spin while not turning the cam shaft?   Stranger things have happened.

My I/S did the same thing on the left side. It ended up being a broken camshaft. Good thing was it didn't bend any valves, bad thing it left me stranded just north of Las Vegas (I live in South Florida).

Cover set + screen set and you're good to go.  Glad you got off easy.   coolsmiley

While you're in there, check all the vacuum lines and boots from air box to carbs and from carbs to intakes.
