today, 5:35 pm.  I saw we had a tornado warning for NE Allen County.

I did what any idiot would do:  I got in my car and ran out east on hwy 24 out of New Haven.
This was my very first time seeing one, and nature didn't disappoint.  It was in front and to the left of me, so I was safe.

Growing up in Iowa I saw so many of those I lost count. Not so fun when you are in one.

I know, but I was behind the direction of travel.

I would agree, but I have this fascination with seeing one.  And I finally did.

Not overly rare, but I have never seen one until tonight.

Well I'm glad you checked it off. Now don't go driving towards tornadoes anymore.  Smiley

I rolled through there yesterday, didn't see one, but did ride in one in June in Morgantown on the bridge over Cheat Lake.
Definitely would not care to repeat that  crazy2

I share your desire to see one.  70 here and lived on the Arkansas oklahoma boarder all my life so you would think I would have seen one as they are very frequent. Never have, though have tried what you did.  Just too many hills and trees to get a panorama.  Maybe I'll move to Kansas. Not

It was strangely beautiful.  I know they are highly dangerous, but so many beautiful things are.

I have seen a couple and don't care to see another Undecided in 2011 I stood in my back door and watched one pass within 3 miles of my house Shocked many homes damaged and no power for 8 days. I was good though had plenty of charcoal and a gas stove and hot water heater fed the neighbors and let them have a hot shower  cooldude

Awesome, my wife was watching over my shoulder, she's jealous... She goes and chases 'em whenever we hear about one on the news and she still hasn't seen one.

(Huge one wiped out a good chunk of our home town of Rowlett Texas December 26th 2015... We were out of town that day, or it wouldn't have happened, she claims.)

Maybe I'll move to Kansas. Not

I grew up in Kansas, about 40 miles east of Wichita.    At the age of 5, I was in the hospital having just had my appendix removed.   The nurses rushed into my room and move my bed into the hall.    That tornado took out about a third of El Dorado, KS.    Watched one on the ground headed toward our home, pick up back into the air and then land again about a quarter mile behind our home in a pasture.    Was also stationed at Ft. Riley while in the Army.   Saw several then, also saw several while stationed at Ft Sill, OK.   Flew helicopter searching for survivors once after a hurricane.    Have seen more tornadoes than I can count, some way to close for comfort.    Hope to never see another one.   Been through two small (as I remember, about a 3 or 4 on the Richter Scale) earth quakes and three hurricanes.    Mother Nature can be a bitch if you piss her off.   I currently live in Kentucky and love it but, seriously considering a move to Southern North Carolina into the mountains, west side of the divide.    A little protection from Atlantic hurricanes and some elevation for cooler weather.   Of course, there will be more snow and ice but, I hate heat and don't mind cold nearly as much.
Life is a compromise, just don't try cheating Mother Nature.

Rare for this time of year. Usually spring time. I think we had 4 or 6 in the surrounding counties that night. Most we had as long as I can remember. Of course it was my night to work but all was good.
