I received a phone message this morning that went right to voice mail. My phone never rang. My wife and I both listened to the message several times.  It was incomplete but was something like this.

" in the court system we have found an urgent need to talk to you, Call us back at
516-321-1809. The call came from New York and is listed on the computer as a scam call. I put area code 516 in a search and it came up on a scam list. If you call the number , they charge money to your phone bill.  D O not answer unknown calls , let them go to voice mail.

along the line of scams... I typed ecay instead of ebay the other day and
my browser locked up on one of those RED screens that says "your
computer is locked, pay us ransom..."

Only my browser was locked.

The ONLY time I answer the phone is if: 1. I am expecting the call.
                                                           2. I know the number.
I pay the bill to have the convenience of making calls, NOT for the convenience of others to call me.

The end.

Ride safe, y'all.

Telemarketer block is a good thing - if you're not on  my "contacts" , you get asked to  press "<some random digit>"  before it will complete the call.....

When I get a number that shows up hat I don't KNOW I ignore the call. IF they leave a voice mail Ill listen to the voice mail. 99.99% of the calls from numbers I am Not familiar with do Not leave voice mails. When I enter the search question-where is this followed by the phone number-100% of the numbers that do not leave a voice mail show up as troublesome callers and a LOT of scams. Nudder reason I don't answer unknown numbers-no WAY in hades am I interested in a time share.   tickedoff  RIDE SAFE.

I use CallCentric , a VOIP company based in NYC. You do need broadband internet, and then some VOIP phone equipment (can be a device which converts your analog phone to digital, or a phone that plugs directly into ethernet).  Check them out at www.callcentric.com . Multiple plans, and you can transfer your existing number to them. Plus it was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than telco or cable phone service (I usually pay $8-$9 / month). The downside is - if your internet is down, so is your phone.

I've been getting the Indian idiots telling me they are from the IRS.

When I block a number they use another one. They are using local area codes.

Then there's the other Indian idiots (may be the same group) telling me I have a problem with my PC. When I ask which one they get very confused so I shout at them and hang up. Quite cathartic.

I had one recently saying they were going to come to the house and "deliver documents" if I didn't pay.  I told them to go ahead and stop by, as I would dearly love to make their acquaintance on my property.  Nobody showed up.  Too bad, I was looking forward to making new friends...
