The choreography of the modern pit stop IS something to behold. What's the torque on the knock off spinners? Hit 4 or 5 times with a REALLY Heavy hammer!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

"He's down and away just 67 seconds after he stopped" that's funny.

I started watching NASCAR back in '79 when I was a kid and I loved to see them work pit stops. Then in the late '80's seeing them pull the fenders, adjust the rear spoiler with a mallet and all the other cool stuff they did.

I remember Dale Earnhardt's crew got the nickname of the "Flying Aces" because they could get their stops done in the 13 second zone, but those F1 guys are unreal.

The F1 guys have some advantages over the NASCAR guys, NASCAR a top team is banging on 12 seconds for a 4 tire and fill the tank stop.

Gravity fuel feed for NASCAR. ONLY one side of the car up at a time for NASCAR. Jacks are NOT part of the car in NASCAR. F-1 knockin on 3-4 second pit stops. F-1 has jacking mechanism as part of the car. There is only one nut holding each wheel on F-1. The F-1s use a pressurized fuel system similar to aircraft. On F-1 all four wheels are changed at the same time. Open wheel F-1 versus Full body-NASCAR. Course these days I'd much rather watch alcohol modifieds at the local dirt track. RIDE SAFE.

No, there is no jacking mechanism in a F1 car, there is a guy in front and the rear of the car with a jack. And they don't get extra fuel, fuelling a F1 car during the race was banned in 2010.
Team Williams broke the pitstop record this year in Bakou, four tyres changed in 1.92 seconds.

Here is a nice slow motion of the same pitstop: http://youtu.be/edXVQcBSD6o

Same for me.  NASCAR died for me when Dale hit that wall.  Hardly watch any NASCAR anymore.

However, I've found myself watching a lot of F1 and Indy car the last few years.  There's a lot of very tight racing going on in those classes.   cooldude
