You need to be spending more time on them "chicken strips". :cooldude:

I lean and the pegs scrape.

Feel free to check out the razor sharp edge any time you want to.  :o

From my experience, and I live for riding leaned over, it's nearly impossible to wear the edges off any car tire.  And when you think about it, that's a good thing.

A feeble attempt at humor based on the apparent depth of tread of the center as compared to the edges. :-[

I ran it with too high a pressure for a couple of thousand miles. A common dark side mistake.

I was lying on the floor with the bike jacked up doing some maintenance when the Champiro tread caught my eye.

I'll keep this on for the Fall Color Ride and replace with the Champiro I already have in the garage.

..

Reminder of what the tire looked like when new.

first time on my 98 valk with car tire which will have to be replaced end of next riding season probably due to age more than tread.  This Champiro looks like a keeper, but to find someone to mount it will be an issue.  NO cycle dealer will touch a cycle with car tire near me am sure.

I found at 36 psi was too much tracking straight ahead and harder to turn so bumped down to 32 psi and surely helped a lot.  Still not as good turning as a cycle tire, but not bad, better than I thought it would be.

Am sure any car tire on my cycle will go easily 20K miles vs. 9K for any cycle rear tire at near 1/2 the cost.

Cookie , I just installed a champiro on a 98 standard for a customer. I rode it and liked the feel. I have a General ultimax , but will probably go with a champiro on the next. I am not that far from you and I install tires.

Theres no way I would go to a car tire and only get 10,000 miles.  I get twice that on a M/C tire every time.

Whatever it is about your roads and/or your riding style that gets you 20k out
of a motorcycle tire would probably get you 100,000 miles on a car tire...

Not necessarily.  I'm sure it depends upon the tire.

Our roads get me 20,000 or close on a well inflated Cobra.  I got about the same on a ZX.

On my planet, this tire has a rounded profile.

This "illusion" is on my standard and I love the way it handles.

The Champiro is my 2nd car tire and it clearly rides more like a bike tire than my previous choice. I think what they mean by rounded is that they have a slightly rounded edge compared to other tires with a more defined edge. It definitely improved the handling characteristics of my bike.

Good to know for next year.  I will look you up and since only 2-3 hours away,  will probably take you up on that offer and pay you accordingly.  Cannot be any higher priced than the stealership... :o

hard to say from previous owners?   I think code date on tire was 2009 so probably not, more like 7 years or so, not really sure?  Has plenty of tread left I think the last 2 owners never rode it much probably afraid of the car tire and cobra exhaust.. :2funny:

FYI - the Hankook Optimo H426 is the same tire as the Champiro.

I hit the 20k miles mark on the Hankook. On my Standard mostly riding solo and at 38psi the center wore more than the edges. To get the best life out of the tire 36psi would have been better.

When I first put the tire on it's "rounded" profile was very noticeable and the bike handled great! However since the center is more worn than the edges, the tire now appears square (though the handling is still fine).

I can probably get another 4-5k miles on the tire. Had it worn evenly that would probably be another 8-10k.

Common mistake running darkside is over inflation. My suggestion is start low and work your way up in pressure rather than starting high and making the same mistake I did.

I vary my air pressure, 36 is for cruising around town and for super-slab, I pump it to 41 when I want to scrape pegs on the twisties.  There isn't a one-size fits all air pressure for riding darkside.

agree with that, even shock/spring pre-load needs to be adjusted for aggressive riding on the twisties depending on loaded weight.

Hmmm...I seem to have the opposite feeling. Higher pressures like 38-40 for high speed (80 plus) sweepers work better for me. And lower pressures like 32-36 for slower, curvy roads seem better.

..

34psi for all situations with the Champiro.

I thought scraping pegs was meant to be done on high speed sweepers.......? Sparks fly a lot further that way!!!!!

14,000 miles

Looks like it has some life left until you see it next to the replacement.

..

Riding on the new Champiro illustrated how flat the center had become on the tire recently removed.

Just like a motorcycle tire feels when transitioning from old to new.

Hef

Chris, what motorcycle tire are you running that gives you 20k miles?

..

..

It's all about the air pressure.

Kept at a constant 34psi cold since installation the tire still looks brand new. Looks like the photo above at 5,000 miles.

At 8,000 miles on a bike tire it would soon be time for a replacement.

Having too much pressure in the first Champiro definitely shortened it's life.

IdahoRaider

I have a goodyear triple tread right now, fantastic adhesion. Never thought I would use that word on a MC. That tire does look pretty good, I will keep up on the posts and see its progress. :coolsmiley:

I've killed this one in just under 10,000 miles.

Had hoped it would last until the end of May.

Oh well, I'll have to use the one I have ready in my garage.
