Has anyone ever been in the audience of a TV Show?   If so!!  I am making an assumption, that when the audience reacts to the people in the show, they are prompted to react.  Like, clap, laugh, WOW, and any other sound.  Is there a prompter or someone coaching the audience, or is it just the audiences natural reaction?

my best guess since never on TV,  is goes both ways.   I think the good old days of holding up cards stating 'laugh'  or 'clap' are probably for the most part gone.

one thing is for sure, when hillary last night said was glad trump was not in charge of the laws and then quickly trump said, yah because you would be in jail,  when the audience clapped and applauded,  it was NOT staged and crowd reaction ONLY.

did not mean to make this yet another political post, just stating an example that I found made hillary NOT laugh and smile soon after trumps comment.

That makes sense, As a child watching TV I was introduced to Canned Laughter, and to the world of fake. We were clearly taught and understood, what was on TV was nothing more than entertainment, and we understood it was not real. Now a days, many people think it is reality and true.  I will briefly watch some sad talk shows, which to it is like chewing broken glass, but it is an observation for me. The thing that gets me , in the audiences response there is like a controlled harmony to it, seems scripted, premeditated, fake like.

I've been in the audience a couple of times years ago. They always have a host/comedian work the crowd beforehand and in between takes to get/keep the audience in a good mood and on the verge of laughing. That's why the audience laughs at things that we, in our living rooms, would barely react at all to. Of course they also have producers encouraging applause, if needed. I can't remember if they had "applause" signs.

I don't think that many shows (that have regular laughing) are filmed before audiences anymore (late night is the exception).  Sit-coms use canned laughter.  I suspect that if tape delayed before an audience (live is rare as hell), laughter (or lack of it) is supplemented with canned laughter.

I was never in the audience, but I was on a local dance show in Windsor Ontario (Ch 9 CKLW) in Jr Hi (I seen to recall Robin Seymour was the host).  In the beginning, there were only two of us guys who would dance with the girls at sock hops, and we became pretty popular (for dancing only).  Both of us got asked several times by different girls, and their mothers picked us up from home (no one had a driver's license yet) an took us round trip.

There was not any laughter, but we were required to wear coats and ties, and there was a shitload of sweating.......those TV lights were murder.  Especially while doing strenuous dancing.  Grin

I'm not in this one, but I was there a few times.

Saw a young Bob Seger there, and at several other school sock hops of the era.

I use to watch that show often, to see the latest groups. My older bother and sister went on, I don't recall if it was Swinging Time, or was there a similar dance show in Detroit TV. I recall Lee Allen, use to say"Speak softly and carry a big horn" and Joel Sebastian from WXYZ/1270, they were CkLW's Competition.

But anyways, I understood canned laughter concept, but the shows I am talk about are like the daytime, hen house talk shows, or Jerry Springier and Wendy Williams type of shows, audience reactions. The don't seen candid reactions.
