To sum up yet again. It IS about RESPECT. I've mentioned this before but I will mention it again-I AM personally familiar with 2 Names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. When I Pay RESPECT to the Flag and Our National Anthem I'd like to believe in my own small way that I am Also helping them Pay RESPECT because they Gave ALL. RIDE SAFE.

I am not kidding either, I don't really care what you think, that is my point. When I stand, and put my hand on my heart and I face the flag, during the Anthem I sincerely mean it. It is not a show to impress people like you.

Well great, hand on heart beats hand in pants any day.  Good Job, oh, and so you are not discouraged....I am not in the least impressed because you now say you actually do the right thing, the minimal respect anyone can pay, a minute or two of doing something you don't have to.  Peace

You are not explaining youself clearly because your point is dead wrong.  Respect isn't just something you "feel".  It is something you express by your actions.  What you do to show respect is not to impress other people but to openly express your respect.

I can imagine what would have happened if when I was serving I had failed to refer to a superior officer as sir but explained that I felt respect for him anyway.  Similarly if your are instructed to do something or go a direction by a police officer but tell him you choose not to but you feel respect for him it won't go very well.

The whole point of public athletic figures taking a knee during the national anthem is to express their own disrespect.  To say it doesn't matter what they do but only how they feel is blowing smoke up your own skirt.

No problem. I just figured we were all taught that at a young age.

When we were growing up we either learned it in the First Grade, or our parents taught us before you went into the First Grade.
Every morning, we started school with standing with our hand over our heart, facing the flag that hung in every classroom, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. After that came the morning prayer. And that was in Public School in NYC.
