Wonder if I could get loyalty pricing as my last 2 cars were Toyota's ? Each had well over 200k

No room for that car in garage and no room to build out the garage either    Undecided

If I was to go nuts it would be for a 2013 vette convertible, the last year of the old style

I love great cars (trucks, yada).  I could afford a lot of them, but will not collect, it would have to be a daily driver.

That said, how does one own a top of the line, really spendy vehicle with today's horrible traffic, with today's horrible drivers, and many horrible roads, and horrible insurance costs for spendy cars?  I can say with near certainty that if I parked that car in the places I routinely go (walmart parking lots), some fruit fly would key it just from jealousy and spite.  Happened to my wife's 10yo Lincoln, two days after a spendy new paint job.  (And they frown on you shooting them just for vandalism)

I choose my cages solely for utility value.  I want a good one, but I'm never in love with them.  They're just cars.

I suppose there are places to live where you could actually drive one in relative safety with peace of mind.  Not where I live.

One other thing.  After a lifetime of lead footing (safely), I have discovered that driving a sleeper is much better than any car that screams..... YES, TICKET ME, (which was exactly what my '69 drop-top Vette with electric blue metal flake paint and chrome hookers was; I used to get followed just on the off chance I might squawk the tires)  (plus, you could not pick your nose in that car without being seen)

Yeah, I had my new 2017 Tundra 5 days before some jackass backed into it at the gas station while I was putting gas in it. Of course they had no insurance. I'm still fighting with progressive on that one. It bent the front passenger side bumper down a half an inch and back a half an inch. Hehad proff of insurance but come to find out they let it lapse.  uglystupid2

hope you got a police report.  My former 2012 tundra was near new only 2-3K miles on it when a dad living a few blocks away from me dropped his kid off at school in same class as my kid.  He did not scrape his windshield in winter and never saw me with bright sunlight that morning.  His P.O.S. chevy malibu went under my rear bumper and toasted his front end and my bumper and hitch wiring harness.  I luckily got a police report since he lied to the local cop in town stating he had insurance. No inattentive driving ticket was given to him and should have plus took 10 months to get 1200 bucks or so out of him having to take him to small claims court with police report luckily I got that, then to DMV to remove his drivers license, until he finally coughed up the dough.  Hard to get someone with no insurance to pay up with no job and no assets either.

And don't you know, that is more often than not the gal person that hits you.

Although I was once rear ended by a cop's wife (minivan full of unruly children).  They had insurance.

During the ten summers I spent in the Detroit steel mills, most of the tradesmen drove what were universally called ghetto cruisers.  Old beaters that only went to and from work, no where else.  Just the steam and crud of the mill ate the paint off them, let alone the bad roads and traffic and winter salt.

Today, I just drive a nicer version of one of those.

It does seem like that doesn't it Jess about the uninsured hitting us, even if it is illegal to drive now in WI without insurance.

My opinion, but I have no problem with someone driving junker cars worth 1K or less, but at least carry liability insurance if you cause an accident.  I think every 6 months or so the DMV (or some other instititution) must get proof of insurance for EVERY valid driver who owns EACH and EVERY car licensed on the road.  If no proof,  inform police and give EVERY one of them uninsured drivers a hefty 1000K ticket or put in jail for 6 months.  It will not provent someone from getting insurance for 1 week or so then cancel it, but it will help for those unfortunate enough to get hit by one of these people who drive around illegally with no liability insurance.  Is tough to get money out of someone uninsured, no job, and no assets to speak of.

Took me 10 months of calling and calling him week after week for say 100 dollar payments for 1 year or whatever.  The thing that got me so pissed was I knew him in town and he promised to pay only 1200 bucks or so.  I said make monthly payments, he never did.  After one day I called him 2-3 times every few hours he finally answered telling me to quit harrassing him calling all the time or he will report ME to the police for harrassment charges.  I went to local police and apparently HE could sue me for harrassment if kept calling and calling him every few days even if he never answered the dang phone 99% of the time.  That got me to take him to small claims court, he never showed up, won the case, still nothing just a judgment against him.  Then found out I can go to DMV and get his drivers license suspended if he did not pay me in full to my satisfaction by a set date of which only a few weeks later he called me up after getting that letter from DMV and paid me in full.  Have not spoken to him since since he is only a few blocks down the road from me.  He has another JUNKER car now to drive along with tons of other crap in his yard all beat up.

The Lady at the D M V here used to be a secretary at an outfit I drove for here in town. Here in Missouri your vehicle has to pass inspection you taxes must be current and you have to have proof of insurance. You have options here to pay your insurance quarterly semi annually or annually. I go with semi annually on my cage and annually on my Phatt Ghurl. Reason I mention this the Lady at the D M V sees a LOT of quarterly insurances on vehicles. I git the feeling-neither confirmed nor denied by my Lady friend-that some of the quarterly payments are only made when needed. NO/NONE/NADA/ZERO proof of my thoughts BUT I'd hate to find out the hard way. Also here in the Sho Me you can opt for a one or two yea tag. So a person has the Potential to be WITHOUT insurance for anywhere from 9 to 21 months. Also NOT saying this IS being done BUT the potential is there. Shouldn't it be incumbent upon the insurance companies to inform the D M V When and If a policy gets dropped? As much as insurance Is these days by informing D M V someone dropped their insurance could save us and them a LOT of money?? I've been stopped by the L E Os here and even IF they give me a verbal or written warning the REALLY WANT to see my PROOF of insurance! And I have absofrikkinlutely NO problem with that. I KNOW for a fact there is NO WAY in Hell my mechanic is going to put His License in danger by passing a subpar vehicle. RIDE SAFE.

The new Acura NSX is $100k+. If this Toyota makes it to market I suspect it will be in the same price range or higher. The Nissan GT-R is another example of low production signature sports car for a automaker and it is $100k+ also. Nothing will touch a base model Corvette for the price. You can still buy a new C7 for under $60k. The Toyota will probably command sticker + money for the first few years of production.

The GT86 is doomed if this car comes to market....unless it's in the supercar price range.

I agree, insurance companies need to do more besides taking our money for premiums and if they get a cancellation call from their insured,  they need to call DMV up and inform them of NO insurance if your state is madatory to have car insurance to drive legally on the states roads.  Then, DMV responsibility to contact that person and get proof of NEW insurance ASAP.

It should be someone's job for sure as required by law vs. waiting for the uninsured to hit us on the road.

as far as that new toyota,  am sure over 100K and not worth it.  Like said, you can get a corvette am sure cheaper well under 100K and be faster with more performance am pretty sure on that one.

To each their own and all that, but this is what's currently parked in my garage next to my Valk:

And I have to say, as fun as that car is to drive, for the sheer pleasure of driving, the FUN of it, the handling, the overall package, I'd take a mid 1990's Toyota Supra Twin Turbo over the 'Vette any day.

If Toyota does this new Supra right, they could very well have a winner on their hands.

I can see a white corvette for sale in the near future??  Been watching a few youtube videos supra vs. vette,   and if done right,  a supra will keep right up there with a vette with the right driver.

Of course,  the key is done right with the supra in terms of performance and pricing.  If over 100K though,  then not many will buy it as a daily driver.  If they could only put it at 50K or under, then it will sell much better.  My guess is it will still be more than a new Vette will cost.

One can dream though right???  since both are outta my budget as most will agree.. Angry

that mid 90's Turbo Supra in today's money would no doubt be pushing 100k. i'm pretty sure the Turbo model was more than a new Vette of the same vintage.

I'd love to see the Supra return.  Back in the '90s there were a lot of good, affordable sports cars to choose from.  Toyota built the Supra and the MR2.  Honda built the S2000.  Now about the only one left is the Miata.

Maybe a new Supra will light a fire under Honda, and they'll start building fun vehicles (both 2 and 4 wheeled)  again.
