Hey 7th_son,

If we are going to lock up these idiot politicians, is there room for Ontario's idiot premier Kathleen Wynne in there also.  She is just as bad as your premier.  If she has it her way no business will be able to afford to be open in Ontario.  Where do these morons get these stupid ideas?  After she is done it will take the conservatives generations to get us back in line with some heavy cuts.

I could never understand why Ontario(Toronto Progressives mostly) elected Wynn after the massive corruption displayed by Dalton McGuinty. We just stood back in astonishment here in Alberta...until it happened to us(where is that beach towel I was talking about earlier  2funny )

Until now I hadn't read anything in this thread beyond meathead's Reply #2.  It seems the discussion has exploded since then.  I'll add my comments which are not directed specifically at the OP, but at everyone participating in this discussion.

I think the rally mentioned in the OP's article was a legitimate expression of protest of Ms. Notley's government's plans and actions.  The NDP are wrong-headed in about 95% (or so it seems) of what they do and say.  The "lock her up" chant at the rally was a stupid, nonsensical, and unoriginal protest slogan borrowed from US protestors who used it in a context in which it made more sense.  In the US, the "her" was actually suspected of breaking laws; in Alberta the "her" is a legitimately elected leader enacting a perfectly legal (though damaging and ineffective in achieving it's stated purpose) agenda.  In spite of my thoughts about "lock her up", I do  think that it has been blown way out of proportion, and that the media regularly ignores well-spoken, legitimate protest messages.

The problem with trying to relay one's message by wrapping it in irrelevant slogans, profane expletives, demonization of the opponent, etc., is that fair-minded, thinking people will quickly dismiss the message as the product of unreasoning, simple, emotion-led people. Also, regarding protest rallies, if the press are sympathetic to the policy, person, or idea being protested, they will focus on the crudeness and unreasoned part of the protest, even when it's a small part of the overall protest.

I think the best way to express one's opinion to politicians is face-to-face.  This summer I was at a couple of different outdoor community events where government MLAs had tables set up to publicize themselves to the community.  I took advantage of this to let them know exactly what effect their policies were having on me and the company I work for.  At one of those events I also purchased a membership in the opposition party that best represented my views.

Interesting comments that allow US Americans a glimpse into Canadian Politics.

I for one didn't know that there was a faction of Canadian Politics that was against Socialism.

I feel for you guys, Socialism is a terrible thing!

Meathead, I don't understand why you are arguing with our Canadian Brothers about THEIR brand of politics.

Unless, you have dual citizenship I can't see where you have a dog in the fight.

Feel free to observe and comment on Canadian public events/issues.  Canadians do on American events/issues.  Many Americans feel free to share opinions on "Canadian-style socialist health care" even with a very distorted understanding of it.

I think the "lock her up slogan" was overblown by CBC for the purpose of grabbing some ratings and an attempt to undermine The Rebel Media.
I've been supporting the Rebel Media through a paid subscription and donations. This country needs a counterbalance to the biased reporting by the CBC.

CBC, Global, CTV, Toronto (Red) Star Etc Etc...very similar to the Lefty MSM in the USA.
Rebel Media consistantly gets trashed by all of the above, even though their reporting is some of the best I see...more complete for sure...Rebel in it's short time on YouTube has twice as many followers as the "State Broadcaster" which we pay for to the tune of 1.1 billion a year...I want a refund on that wasted money...they serve no real purpose now with media gravitating to the internet, other than to be a shill for the Liberals at our expense.

I don't mean to meddle in the politics and affairs of our Canadian neighbors, who I have the utmost respect for.  With out exception every Canadian I have met has been polite and cordial (with the exception of a few French Canadians).  I have enjoyed following this post, and have one question, Is the Canadian equivalent of Godwin's law, that the first person to mention beer in a Canadian argument wins?

Neither you or meathead are "meddling". It's simply a discussion. And an entertaining one, for the most part. I know my Canadian VRCC brothers a little better now and now you might know a little more about Canadians as well.   cooldude

We aren't socialists,, we are quite divided with regard to our politicians as you guys are. We have differences from our southern friends for sure (like we have way better beer, whiskey and are better at hockey) but we also have a hell of a lot in common.  Except we discuss our politics in 1 thread. You guys prefer hundreds.  Grin. That might have something to do with the fact there are no Trudeau, Notley or Wynne supporters on here...but they're out there. Just not here. I fear what would happen if one showed up.

Quebecr's are better.  OK   I see that same academia elitist snoobery that so prevails down to your south.  Glad you have that Rebel Station - too bad it took so long.  I am sure the out of touch folks will portray you like they did our tea party and make up all sorts of lies.   Well our tea party and others turned around congress, the senate, governors, state houses, and now the Presidency all without a leader.  It is simply a  movement to get involved and take back the government, grass roots so to speak.

Really enjoyed reading the discussion on current politcal goings on in Canada.  Man I can feel what you fine folks are up against.  A carbon tax means huge bankroll for the international and national bankers to buy and sell, which out of profits they bankroll lefty politicians to continue the gravy train.

Back in the 90s I was fortunate to meet so many really good Western Province Canadians that would come to Palm Springs during the winter.   Most of Ontario and Quebec went to Florida.  They would inform me of happenings and some, maybe most,  really wanted to separate from the East.

Keep up the good fight.

You are welcome to share your beer and even your politics.

But, I'd prefer it if you kept your cold weather to yourself...............

Maybe after Trump gets the wall built along our southern border he can build a REALLY tall one along our northern border to keep out all of that cold Canadian air.  Evil Evil
