I don't hit the triplets, but I'll definitely bend 'em over my knee and give 'em an old school spanking when they've earned one...  coolsmiley

(And boy howdy, they've earned a few today, but that's another story...)

As far as the real question, I still hit it quite often, although my Valk has started feeling squirrely much above 100... However, when I'm riding the spousal unit's ST1300 I have to work hard to NOT break at least 100, that thing just wants to run.

I found that the ST liked to chug along at 80. Didn't take much to get to 100 from there.

Every spring when I bring the old girls out I open them up and sometimes when I look down I see I need to back down quickly. They still have no problem getting up and going. But as I get older I realize how much I have to lose. Must be growing up.

That's the thing.  In VA, over 80 can be automatic reckless (officer's discretion).   They don't even have to prove willful, wanton disregard, weaving, racing, breaking traction or any of that.  Eighty plus and it doesn't matter if on an empty freeway, straight and level, full sunlight, dry road, yada (though all those may get the officer to write pure speed and not reckless.... but at 100, good luck).  Moreover, 100 is really only safe on good roads, mostly freeways (where they like to lie in wait); the last time I did 120 on a two lane, I promised myself it was the last time, and it has been.  (I ran over a 50 lb groundhog on that same road a year later, and for a short distance, only my hands were touching the bike)

In VA, reckless carries all the same penalties/points/fines as DUI (except they don't make you go to AA).  And for over 80 and reckless, they can arrest you on the spot and take you away in cuffs, and tow your vehicle (again, their discretion).  And your insurance company will not show you any love either.

So, the thinking man waits until a couple cars or bikes fly by at the ton, and then follows at the ton, a healthy quarter mile back.  They get the radar/lidar, and you get to offend nearly risk free.   Grin

I know, I know, I've posted this pic a few times but it's worth posting again... I was only doing my usual 20-25 over on this road, but got HORRID gas mileage for some reason! Wink

Also... If you have a way to have a smartphone running while riding, I HIGHLY recommend you install and use Waze... It's a social GPS app. See a cop? Report the cop. The next person coming along will get an alert that there's a cop ahead. (Not just revenue collection officers too, can also report wrecks, dead animals on the road, stalled vehicles, etc. etc. etc.)

It's not 100%, but I've avoided a LOT of Performance Driving Awards by using that app, far more effective than a radar detector is in my experience!

That is a great app. I need to learn to use more of it's features. It would be great to have (live) traffic display and the map needs to scroll a bit faster. Again, I've just started using it and it has saved me a ticket or two.

My commute in is at 230 AM, not too many other drivers to give reports.... Undecided Undecided

Back before I had to stop riding, I'd hit triples every now and then, but only just for short busts, then back down to traffic speed.  Its fun for sure, and maybe I'm a wuss, but I see no need to do triple digits on the highway for extended periods.

I have a few times on the 60 in Mesa and the surprising part how the closure rate does not seem that great because everyone else is flying too...going to be changing mid January..going to be a 1-2 year zero tolerance for speeding on a 13 mile stretch from the Loop 202 to the Loop 101...those in the area will know where I mean. A couple other areas but I dont know exactly where they are

The first time I hit rev limit on the 1800 was against a coworker's Dodge Challenger R/T. He felt froggy, I jumped, and then it happened.

Since then I like to dabble to triples, but I don't go far over. No Moof pancake needed.

The 1500? I've hit a solid 90. The tall windscreen started making the front end buffet shake. That is not my favorite.

Laverda Jota 150 indicated on the M40, England early one summer morning in the early 80's.

First Valkyrie 135 on a GPS on a long gradual downslope somewhere in ND.

ST1300 135 indicated on Talledega Speedway

Second Valkyrie 125 indicated on a 4 lane in GA.

Well pretty much everyone is driving 80 mph on the freeways in California.  Triples isn't much faster, and I hit them regularly.

Rarely go over 75. Our speed limits are usually 100-110kph (62-68mph) so 75 is plenty. And I rarely travel by interstate when I'm in the states. I'd much rather cruise along at 60-70mph on a secondary highway and actually enjoy the scenery than fly down an interstate. I will do 85-90 on an interstate to cover ground, but it's not something I enjoy.

Having said that, in my sport bike days...I would regularly wind it up to stupid speeds that I won't document online. Not out of fear of prosecution...but so my kids don't ever know. If they ever did half the dumb crap I did, I'd have a problem with it.

but OHH what a way to go out with a big smile on my face.

Not sure I could handle 2, let alone 3 though..

Never hit 100 on the VAlk, but have once doing 105-100 on my brothers then new 1984 suzuki gs550L  back in the late 80's when I was young and stupid vs. just stupid now..    uglystupid2

Have done 85-pushing 90 a few times on the Valk, but do not feel ever the need to do much of anything over 85 anymore.  Something about the risk vs. reward thing.  Top speed ever was 115 mph or so in an old 1976 caprice classic was fast enough for me stuff happens too quickly at that speed.

I hit the - yes but not often, having said that I need to add a new twist here, the passenger.  On a suzi GSX about four years ago we hit 143 (not sure if that speedo was spot on) and when I slowed down I looked back and asked my wife what she thought, she said, do it again!  The new Valk has a rev limiter and at 124 (digital and I believe to be accurate) it hit the limiter, once again she is enjoying the speed. Yesterday we had my 1800 lead and three 1500s spaced out behind and on a ruler straight but hilly road we all crossed the line 106 for me.  I rarely can ride one up and she pouts when she has to work and I go with out her. She is so bad that she lays gilt trips on me for actually going with out her.  She is 57.

Most of the roads I ride are 55 mph (that is 65 on my dial) ones.  Though OR has recently consented to allowing us to legally go 65 on some of the two lanes in my area.

Only time I have hit the triples is during multiple vehicle passes, that is up to speed and then back down.  Not an really trying to do them, just too much twist of the wrist.  2funny 2funny

My GPS says max speed 101mph, so I guess that would count. My bike has done a wobble at high speeds that I have discussed here so I don't need to push my luck. I ride 60 to 70 mph most of the time on country roads.

Your wife must like being a speed junky which would be nice to have.  I once hit 85 mph passing someone and the wife wacked me in the shoulder going that speed YELLING at the top of her lungs to SLOW DOWN.    I am no speed junky, but do like to twist the wrist every now and again.  Someday I would like though to see how fast I could go and feel comfortable doing it (my guess 150-160 mph) in like a race car on the track.  I think some race tracks allow, for a fee,  to test run their stock cars a few laps around the track but am sure they de-tune them down somewhat to say top speed 160 mph or so tops so as to not wreck with someone who thinks they can do 180 mph or more.

Not a great story teller and will try to be brief.... Six months ago. Fayette Co. Atlanta burb, 2 lane state hwy. North lane splits into passing lane for quarter mile. 3 cars in front and they all stay in passing lane. I pass first one on right hand side ( illegal ). Drop in back of other two. Check, yea I have enough road before blends back into two lanes. Give the Phat lady her head and go around the other two. Pull up beside 2nd car, just ticked 100, ( speed limit 55 ) 2nd car is Fayette Co. Shreriff. Opps, too late now. Bump white line as I pull in front.
Tell my self, well you are about to go to jail and have my bike impounded. Sure enough here come the blue lights. Pull into abandoned gas
station. One walks up on either side. " know why we stopped you, yes sir it was stupid ". Said we didn't mind you passing but when you touched the white line we have to pull you. The one on my right starts asking questions about my Lady. Good looking, what year model, what she cost. Other cop comes back after checking license, looks at other cop and says, "veteran ". Hands me my license and says " be careful  ". WHEW !!!! Guess it pays to be polite and have fate that a fellow vet pull you over.

I've had cops let me go after a speed stop usually after a friendly and a humorous conversation but not in the late 60s. Cops then in Socal had no sense of humor. Back then I had so many tickets I had to stop riding due to a loss of license. Doing triples plenty of times with my Valk but doing the 0-100-0 was the best. Did that in the Az, desert in 19 seconds. What a rush.

Back years ago I was flying EMS out of Shreveport Louisiana, driving a Corvette convertible just like all hot shot EMS pilots should.  The Louisiana police knew and liked me, and wouldn't touch ticketing my lucky ass.  I was on the Interstate headed home for the week with top down and cruise set at 150 and got pulled over.  Once they recognized me, they apologized and set me free.  Was a great time for a poor country boy.  Wish it was still the same.   On the Bikes back when I was still riding, did it many times, but probably the fastest was on the ZX14, that thing would fly.
