California - State Rte 36 - especially from Red Bluff, west to the coast.
Cali - . . .   State Rte 96 - Between I-5 and Rte 299 (Willow Creek)

(299 isn't too shabby either. Recent road construction west of Redding obliterated our Deals Gap of the West. Eight miles of twisty bliss has been reduced to six miles of sweepers.  Undecided

(my domicile is on 96 in W/C) Cool
I am sad to hear about 299. It's a tough job to pick just one up your way.  cooldude

Michigan, M-119’s Tunnel of Trees is a 16-mile scenic road that begins in Harbor Springs and ends in Cross Village. This narrow road, designated as a Scenic Heritage Route, lacks a centerline (caution: don’t drive this route if you are in a hurry!) and traces an ancient Native American trail along a spectacular bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. Bordered by a thick hardwood forest that parts occasionally to offer tantalizing glimpses of  Lake Michigan, the Tunnel of Trees is beautiful four seasons a year—so bring your camera. Spring sees morels and trillium carpeting the forest floor. Summer brings a thick green canopy that turns red and gold in autumn. In winter, views of the icy lake open up.

If forced to choose one road and stay in WI, high on the list is SR35 from Prairie du Chien to Superior.  Several of us will take that general route through the driftless part of the state at least once a year. We usually end up on SR27, US67, SR88, US65 and any number of county roads not to mention some of the local MN roads once north (or south) of the Minny/St Paul area.

Cookiedough, you have some of the best twisties and hillocks in the state within an hour or so of you. I will spend all day on the county roads between Richland Center, Readstown and Sparta given a chance. You just have to watch out for the Amish buggies during the week. The road through Wildcat Mountain State Park (SR33) is almost as good as the road to Highlands, NC (NC106?) from Dillard, GA just not as lengthy (and no waterfalls making the road slick).

Sorry folks, but I can't pick one favorite road here or anywhere else I have traveled.  They are all connections to the next new road as yet untraveled, some just more memorable than others. And sometimes the friends you meet on a road make that road more memorable than the scenery.

Rode that trail and it is beautiful but had a lot of sand/gravel in the switchbacks when Free Pass and I rode thru.  Both of us had brown pants moments and we saw a harley that had not been as lucky during the journey, sliding off the road into the trees.

Route 16. From St Mary's WV to War WV.  Only 224 miles, but tough to do in one day. For one of the best in Virginia, continue on route 16 to Marion VA.

OK... BikerGirl and I will meet Jess at the end of Skyline Drive and the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway for a high five.  The ride south from there is North Carolina's best riding road.

Many of you got to experience part of the BRP at Inzane in NC.  Not the fastest route from Points A to B, but one that yields surprises and new experiences each time we ride it. cooldude

Britman,I promise not to count to 1 by 3's...one of my favorites here in Indiana (or Indianer as the natives speak it) is Highway 135 from Nashville , IN to Freetown , IN. Even though Indiana is typically flat , southern Indiana is much like Kentucky terrain...hilly and woodsy...so there are many great roads in southern Indiana.   https://www.google.com/maps/@39.079137,-86.1613333,11.25z?hl=en

Having been up and down BRP many times (not all the way to NC, but say from VA to north TN and back), I have discovered on my return trips north on BRP, that if you keep moving and don't lollygag at gas/ food/rest stops, the trip only takes an hour or two longer than running way west to I-81N, and I-66E to home.  And it is a much nicer day than playing tag with the zillion big trucks (and Troopers) on 81.  Now if it's raining cats and dogs, you're better off on the freeways.  Since I'm in NE VA, I tend to get off BRP at mile marker 1 in Waynesboro, and zigzag northeast home.

It's sorta the tortoise and hare deal; BRP allows you to keep moving steady with no traffic backups (and you only have to go 45 if there are cops around).

I live in northern Ill. just 15 miles from the Wisconsin border, I really don't have a favotite road in Ill. unless you get far south, so my favorite is the road that gets me into Wisconsin, there I really like the open county roads with little or no traffic, just sit back and enjoy the rolling hills, good pavement, except, for the manure, spreading in early spring, other than that, just give me an open road and lets role...........

Agree,   IL roads, most of them, suck,  good roads in WI like Cracker.. said probably the Great River Road along Mississippi and rural country roads nearby being the best.  However, comparing them to other driving roads shown,  even that road in WI becomes just good, not great.   Yah,  I do have some of the best rural WI, winding, country roads with not much traffic within 1-2 hours of where I live, but being from this area as well all my life,  it seems just so-so seeing the same scenery year after year.

I have to agree with Crackerborn HYW 35 is my favorite. But I think we have so many in this state. We've got the Mississippi river on the west side, Lake Superior on the north, the loop around Green bay then Lake Michigan on the east side. This ride is on my bucket list this summer. And don't forget the Wisconsin river, Lake Winnebago.

Alberta Hwy 93, the Icefields Parkway, Lake Louise to Jasper.  Not a consistently highly technical peg-scraping type of road, and in the sections where it might be, you're behind traffic anyway, but the scenery is absolutely spectacular!  The first photo is mine, the second found on a Google search.  The photo in my signature (with the river, mountain, and purple clouds) was taken from a pro photographer's web site, but was captured near the south end of that section of 93.

http://www.canyonchasers.net/maps/48/AB-93

Yep, have done that route more than a few times. There's one big problem with it though...it can be extremely dangerous, as it's very difficult to keep your eyes on the road in front of you  Grin

Wow, that is simply awesome, great looking Valks as well.

Around lake michigan is nice done that in a car, not on a cycle though.  I prefer the MI side of the lake vs. WI though for the most part way up north.  Is worth doing though at least once in your lifetime just to say you done it....   Upper MI, in my eyes, around lake MI, is better than the northern WI side, but both enjoyable in their own right.

Traveling home from DC in our cage a few years ago,  I caught a glimpse of the PA and West Virginia, etc. mountain range getting back the LONG way off the superslab, and wish I had a cycle coming back just a tad thru those rolling hills, loved it.  Am sure it only got better heading tad bit further south as well, I was impressed driving thru about 10 unincorporated towns in that mountain range twisting and uphill/downhill all over the place, even in a 4 cylinder car.   It got pretty once hit the Wheeling W VA area and heading south east from there.

I live in northern Ill. dont have a favorite road here, maybe any road that takes me up into Wisconsin,,,, the county roads are great for just sitting back and cruising, except for when its manure spreading time...... then just dont breath for a mile or so,doesnt take long......I lived in Colorado for 11 years in my late 20s and early 30s      the canyons and passes are some of the best riding I have ever done.   In 2012 when we went to Stirgis,we took a side trip on the way home. My brother had never road his bike in the Colorado rockies. Took 3 days cruising west of Denver, and came out by Pikes Peak. That was fun and reminded me how much I missed riding in the Mountains. I had a Honda 750 in those days, now on my Valkyrie 1832 those windy roads are a breeze. Cant wait till spring to get back out again, 3 1/2 months to go. till then I will just go through my picture albums and maps of trips I have been on..... starting plans for a trip across Michigan up into Canada, hug the lakes till we get to north of New York state, then back across the bottom of the lakes. Did the around Lake Michigan trip afew years ago, that was nice. Have a good winter to all us northern bikes, RIDE ON

Just wanted to say to you Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota folks along the Mississippi river.  I thought the riding was pretty spectacular on the ride to Inzane at Lacrosse WI, I really enjoyed the towns and all the beautiful farms along the way.  Having never been to that part of the country I really thought it was a beautiful area and enjoyed it very much.

Imagining for a moment I live in CA, lonely Hwy 33 through the Los Padres National Forest is absolutely fantastic.  In Wisconsin, it would be any double letter alphabet soup county road west of Mt. Horeb.

I honestly don't have a favorite riding road in SC.  I always head up to the mountains in NC.

My area is congested and dangerous for cyclists.

I guess 17 towards Charleston is pretty safe but boring.

Gotta head north and west to find nice rides.

You're right about flat, but there's some cool stuff... when spring starts breaking out,
keep on past Charleston on 17 and go down the road to Bennetts Point... stop
a few times along the way, there's some places where you
break out of the pine woods. Awesome spring aromas and if you sit quiet
for 10 minutes or so (no other traffic might go by) no telling what might
come wandering out of the woods or swimming by (if you stop near water)...

You'll pass what looks like unpaved roads with farm gates and stuff on them
along the way, a lot of them will be long (private) driveways out to old
plantation properties and there's a a little community at the end of the
road. I went all the way to the end once on a Friday afternoon and there
were a bunch of locals drinking a beer at a place where the shrimp boats
come in, it was fun hanging out there with them for a few minutes...

Been a long time since I've taken it but Hwy 1 in MN from Illgen City on the shore of Lake Superior all the way to ND.  A little dangerous from Illgen to Ely as there where no real shoulders & trees come right up to the road and a lot of logging truck but a beautiful ride.

Nice work, Britman... all those roads are probably good, but I'm
definitely going to remember 39 in West Virginia... I've crossed
the state numerous times on 219...

People will probably whip my butt if they come all the way to
South Carolina to ride the little pig trails in my back yard I
listed... I interpreted "favorite roads" as the ones I like to
ride a lot, so I listed some of the ones I can make a little
afternoon loop on. We also have a few real motorcycle
class roads... 109, 130, 178... we also have the beginning
of where 28 starts to get good...

I think I'm blessed with a ton of good roads right out my
back door, but it is not like "go to Georgia and ride 60",
its more like "go to South Carolina and follow me through
a maze of obscure back roads..."

Since we have so many here in Wi. and the great river road has been mentioned I'll have to add the great river road along the Mississippi is comprised of a couple different Hwys. From The Car Ferry at Cassville Wi. north to Red Wing Mn. Staying close to the river  offers the bes senery. There are 4 Bluffs  that over look the river 1 at Mc Gregor Ia.- over looks the wi. River  & Mississippi River, 2 at Lansing Ia, 3 at lacrosse - old Grand, 4 Alma Wi. - Beauna Vista.

Across the pond from me  the North Shore of Lake Superior Duluth Mn. 61 leading to Thunderbay an contuing on on 17 To Sault St Marie Mi. Is a journey that is pure pleasure. Doing a loop around Lake Superior can take 3 days But best in 5 . The North Shore offers plenty of water falls, a light house or two,  an a couple of places where you can mine some Amethest  and some Golden Wheat Beer in Nippigon an hidden treasure north towards lake Nippigon, plenty of sites to see including a couple big Forts were they do skits, nearby TB is also little Niagara - Kecabeca Falls. 3 working Gold Mines that you cannot get in near the Yellow Brick Road.  1/2 dozen trips more than 16 years ago only seems like yesterday.  If your eys are open you'll spot Whinne The Pooh an if your a Vet the VFW near by just may be the place to share a beer with our Canadian  brothers.

If I had to choose ONE road here in New Hampshire, I'd choose the "Kank",  The Kancamagus Highway.  Rt. 112, Lincoln - Conway NH.
