WOW, that is AWESOME good news.

I would like to see 60lbs. weight loss.  I know 200lbs. again is pushing it when age 20, but 220-225 would be nice.  Size 40 waist is do-able but pushing that 44 inch waist is NOT good for someone under 6 feet. 

My wife lost 50lbs. in less than 6 months but I have not joined the band wagon yet.   :'(

My goal for this year, is 100 pounds lost...that'll put me at 227 pounds weight.

I was 427 in 2013....so the actual loss so far is 145 total...the 45 is this year (since February).

I think I'm aiming for a final weight around 200lbs and then we'll see...despite the flab I am a substantially "muscley" kind of guy and when I was in the best shape of my life (nothing but muscle and blood) I was 200 or so...we'll see.

Can't start till ya get started :) (getting started is the hardest part).

I just finally figured out...it wasn't gonna happen by accident...and made "myself" a project. I'd never done that before. My work ethic sort of makes me think that sort of effort...expended on myself only...is selfish and a waste...it was...difficult...to get over that.

Heh...that would be what I would call a "stretch" goal...I'm a LONG way off from that yet! May never get there...no matter how fit ya get a 50+ year old body ain't the same as a 20 year old one...especially if the 50+ year old one's been seriously ignored, neglected, and abused for 45+ of those years :)

220-227 is my goal for this year...

At 60, and looking/feeling damn good, friends mistook me for 45.
I don't want to be lyin there in 5 years thinkin "I wish Id'a done something".
Aot of guys with burn marks,gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear

doc visit yesterday...


Just this year...
Lost 63 pounds. Ate better. Worked hard. Gained strength. Dropped 2-1/2 prescriptions. Misplaced 10 inches off my waist. Normalized my blood sugar. Threw out all my jeans. Bought some more at the thrift store.

Everything hurts and I'm dying :)

Initial goal was to drop 100 pounds this year. 37 more to go.

This is *despite*....faceplanting into the birthday cake for my Mom this weekend (SNICKERS CAKE! OMG!)

70 pounds lost since I started working on it this February

3600 Kcals/pound...means a calorie deficit of 252,000 Kcals to lose that weight.

That means via diet and exercise...on average, every day since February I've consumed about 1200 Kcals *less* than I've burned...

1200 Kcal/day deficit...Day in and day out.

Ugh...

This stuff doesn't happen by accident...

...it took me a long time to understand that.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a land far away, I decided to shed 20 pounds... I did do it, but it took me just over a year to make the mark! You are right... total mind snuggle! The primary take-away from that experience, for me at least, was that it's easier to keep the weight off than it is to take it off! I've been a fairly disciplined diner ever since...

Congratulations to you! I'm in awe at what all you've done in such a relatively short time... Well done, my friend, and I wish you good health for all your success.

I saw an interview with Hugh Jackman (plays the absolutely ripped "Wolverine" in the movies) that was along those lines. The question was "How do you get into such good shape for your movies?"

He looked at the interviewer like she was nuts...clearly struggling to understand the question...finally he said, "It's easier to stay in shape than it is to get in shape..."

Thing is...as nutty as it sounds...I was not really conscious of the shape I was falling into over the years. Hard work and neglecting myself were just part of the equation of getting out of where I had come from...and I didn't...feel...out of shape...

It took a serious shift of thinking to overcome that.

Pictures say a lot.  Inspiring for sure, at least to me.  Recently had third major MC crash in 35 years.  Since that I have decided, having recently flipped 66 years of age, that I am too old to have to tolerate the pain. It has been 15 years since I was doing in excess of 100 mile days on a bicycle, and I have gotten out of shape, overweight,  and I need to regress to where I once was.  Getting off the MC and back  on the pedal bike.  Keep up the good work. :cooldude:

It's something I realized...shortly after starting...that I would be doing the rest of my life...one way or another.

"Polite Society" simply does not provide enough physical and mental challenge to keep body and brain healthy. It takes a deliberate effort.

I haven't had a bicycle in years...and I'm about to get one.

You've hit upon a concept I've spent considerable time playing around with the last couple of years... I'm amazed at the hold on us our ordinary 'thinking' can have, and the influence it can exert on our behaviors! Habits of thought, routines and patterns, not paying attention to what is actually going on and the consequences of such... Yes, polite society does indeed fail to provide sufficient stimulation and 'directions', and it is so very easy to fall into ruts from which we must later extricate ourselves.

In my own life, changing perspective, looking at things from a different angle, considering previously foreign notions just as you have done, all have given me new insights into this... and it has led to some significant alterations in my own behaviors! I completely agree with you that what you have set upon is far more than merely a major physical adjustment... It is indeed a mental process, as well... perhaps even mostly...

Again, congrats on your undertaking's success... It is fascinating to follow along with you, and to grow from learning of your experiences and revelations... Looking forward to more!

Daniel, I think what you have done is tremendous achievement.  The hard part is done,  but keeping the weight off will take daily effort. 

I have passed the entry to my seventh decade.  Thankfully I have had a very high metabolism which has allow me to eat more than my fair share and not gain weight (much weight).   I managed to stop weight gain at 240 lbs 10 years ago.  Not a bad weight on a 6' 4" body, but still more than I should.  Now I have shrunk the height by an inch and reduced they weight to 210 lbs.  To keep the weight off and still enjoy food (still eat more than most), I work out 4 times a week with weights and walk 5 or 6 times a week.   (knees don't like running any more).   This is something I will have to continue till the ground covers me up.   It also keeps me strong enough to manhandle my Valk.

Again it is cool you have decided to do something about your excessive weight.
