I have a new workshop and I am looking at lighting options. I will be using some used 4' light fixtures and I am wanting to pull the ballast and go with a direct wire LED. My question is what color light is best for a shop? Soft White, Daylight, Crystal White, Super bright white.... There are so many color options, and I personally don't understand the difference in all of them and what the best application for each one is. Any help would be appreciated.

i like 5,000k or 5,500k light color for working. Very white but yet not blue. Get up to 6k and it starts to get a blueish color to it. we have 4,500k in our shop at work and right above my table i put a high bay led that is 5,500k. Works great for me

I got the hanging 4' LED, with a 120V plug in (my shop ceiling has outlets built in) from Home Depot. On sale, they were about $40 per light ( the least expensive 4' LED option they had). I have 6 of them in a 16' X 20' basement shop, and all I can say is the lighting is waaaay better than the same number of 4' double florescent lights I removed. Flip the switch, and they are on... Full brightness, no warm up, no noise Black Dog

I have 4, 8 foot tubes in my garage. Looking at switching over to LEDs as well. My only issue is my peeked roof, lights are 20ft high. How the hell the previous owner ever changed bulbs baffles me. I backed my pickup in the garage and set my little giant ladder in the bed and was still 5ft to short. I think I'm going to have to rent a tow behind lift to get them in.

dang, 20 foot tall garage roof inside. You must have a nice garage?? I doubt my 8 foot ladder in the bed of my truck would work being about 2-3 feet too short being 4 foot for truck bed, 7 foot both for ladder and me. Not sure how you going to get up there 20 feet high?

Not sure how you going to get up there 20 feet high? I don't know if it's nice, just a lot of head room. I think it's more around 18 ft, sorry I exaggerated a little. It's probably worth building a storage loft at some point to get some use out of all that wasted head room. I'm just starting out in this home, I've seen the amount of crap a man can acquire over long periods of time

Hang them on pulleys so they can be lowered down to change bulbs. Or just eye bolts on the ridge beam or roof stringers. I use a few portable spots that can be moved around to what I am working on too. This clamps to all two-by structural wherever you need them.

The thought scared me toobut now I have 2 little boys that are wilder than a thousand indians. I figure if they turn out half as good as I did then I was a successful father.
