My question is who can you get to install a dark side tire on a motorcycle rim? I've asked around and no one around me will touch them.

Look for a small local shop. no stealers.   tell them its a motorcycle tire like the ones that the 3-wheelers install i.e. cam-am etc.

I use a small shop near me. never a question, except just wanting to know. same when I had them put a rear tire on the front in reverse rotation.

Find an independent cycle shop in the area.  Most won't care and at the most will be curious about it.  My local shop is now recommending the Austone Taxi tires to a lot of his HD customers.  I bring in the tire and the wheel and he mounts and spin balances them for $25.  I could do it myself cheaper, but I enjoy the convenience of dropping it off on the way to work and picking it up mounted and balanced on the way home.  Put them back on the bike, take it off the lift, and I'm ready to roll for the next 10K miles.

There's a good reason for that...its called liability.

I have asked our local independent shops and non will touch it cause of the liability and I even offered to sign a waiver of liability or whatever they wanted but still they refused.

You might watch a few Youtube videos and get you some tire tools and give it a go...full disclosure: I have never done it, but if I did not have a shop that would do it, I would give the DIY a shot

I got a HF tire mounter years ago when I compared the cost of the machine and what I was paying to mount tires. It's under $100 IIRC thern you wind up getting a few accessories like a better tire mount bar, mounting lube, tire levers.  This assumes you have a compressor.  I've saved hundreds but more than that I have the versatility to swap out tires when I want.  You are heading out on a long road trip so you want to start with new rubber. (On the darkside, this happens less) So you wind up with partially used tires.  Nice to then use them up locally later.  For balancing - went to Ride-On years ago - done.  Works great, bonus might save you the hassle of a flat.

I go to my Honda dealer.  No problem.

If having a problem, take the wheel off, and take it and the new tire to a shop.  Tell them it is for a Trike or on a sidecar rig.  Most places accept that.

Tell them sidecar rig, and the mfg recommends a cartire for the added stress of the hack.

It is an excuse.

Point us to a link of where either a mc rider or a shop got sued successfully because they had a CT on the back.  I am NOT holding my breath, as that has been asked many times over the decade I have been running CTs, and not one, NOT ONE TIME, has anyone ever shown a case of that happening.

Yet, MC tires fail and kill riders all the time, and no one thinks a thing about it.  I have NEVER seen where a CT has been the cause of an accident, or where a CT rider has been denied insurance because they had a CT on when their accident occurred.

So they refuse to mount CTs on for Can ams, trikes, etc. too?  Ones that REQUIRE a car tire?

If you will take the wheel off yourself, take it in and tell them it is for a sidecar or a bike trailer you are putting together.

Get a bead breaker, air compressor, air valve remover, some tire tools and just do it yourself.  I've put 4 car tires on my Valkyrie using those tools, including just this last Sunday with the Austone Taxi Tire.  Soapy water and a rug on the floor is all you add.

You are correct cooldude

But, unfortunately, it's the slight whiff of a lawsuit that causes this.

Exactly.  was at local honda dealer the other day. Can-am was there. Motorcycle rims with car tires on.
