... If I may ask, since it was the second surgery for the same type of hernia, did they use a screen or other reinforcing?

Before the procedure the surgeon indicated they were considering a mesh.  After the surgery he indicated that seeing what they had they declined using the mesh.

Good update, 2.5 hrs. as opposed to over 4 sounds like a success to me. The description of the incision made me cringe more than a little. Both of you are still in our thoughts and prayers.

Lori is improving a little at a time but good forward motion.  Yesterday afternoon (30 hours after) we were able to get her up on her feet and sitting in a chair.  She passed the swallow test so the doctor okayed her for liquids.  She's still in some pain but getting to be a little less with the passage of time.

We should have her riding soon.   Wink

Mesh? Really? Have they never heard of the miracle of duct tape? Glad things are improving!!! Looking forward to hearing about the 'adventure' directly from her down the road someplace...

Indications are that Mama will be released to come home this afternoon.  She has improved steadily over the past few days but some pain remains.  I suppose there is naturally some residual impact of being sliced from navel to breast bone and having one's internal organs moved and rearranged.

She's a bit confused and confusing at times.  We hope it is just the medication.  We were talking abut her release and she told me out of the blue that she wouldn't be able to drive that truck. She gets her days and people switched at times.  I'm looking forward to getting her signature on several documents before she recovers from this state. I do hope she signs her correct name.

Glad she gets to come home where the healing will hopefully accelerate in one's natural surroundings. As far as taking advantage of her semi confused state, the proof of your intentions lies in this thread. You need to cover your tracks better, my friend....lol.

Sure that the painkillers for such a massive surgery are having their way with Lori's mind. She'll come back to herself when she's damn good and ready!

Home.

On to the next phase of this adventure.  She's on liquids for at least the next two weeks.  She's moving away from the careful attention of professional nurses to the amateur attention and care of her spouse.

Lori would appreciate your prayers during this time.

LORI! TIME TO GET UP & GO FOR THAT 5K MORNING WALK! CARL! Please make sure that she does not listen to me. Hope you both are well, able to rest and cope, thinking of and praying for both of you. Claire has also put in a few good words; she has a lot more influence than I do...  angel

She's a little bit better every day, but still in a fair amount of pain.  Last night she slept though the night without awakening. That's good news except that it caused her to fall behind in pain meds.  Things are advancing as well as could be hoped for.

Good that she could sleep without the pain meds, unpleasant to wake up to the pain. Praying for both of you.

Still thinking about you both! Glad she continues to improve...those abdominal things are a pain...so much of our movement involves that area...
