FYI - she did start and I'm almost certain no gears were wrecked but I wouldn't guarantee it.
My gut is telling me it's time to move on.
For me, when it comes to motorcycling, the #1 thing that you must have, above all else, is confidence in your ride.
Obviously, yours is waning quickly, so I'd say it is time to move on.

As to what to do with your current one.
Your reluctance to "rebuild" it and fix it would seem to me that "parting it out" would be something you would not want to spend time on either.
I'd go for the selling it "as is" option. You wouldn't get as much money out of it but you wouldn't spend a lot of time in it either. I'm sure there are guys just chompin at the bit for a project like this.
