But riding south through Mexico, and some of Central and South America is more than a bit dangerous, don't you think?

And you have to satisfy each country's insurance requirements too, no?

I don't think I'd even ride to Tiajuana anymore. Much less all of Mexico and South America .

Me neither.  And my post is as understated as I could make it.  I don't want to rain on Pavel's parade, but that is like a ride through a war zone (in places), with no laws of armed conflict existing.  Kidnap, robbery and rape are the lesser of potential evils.  And you have to do it unarmed.  And alone?

On our way back from Billings, we ran across this British couple that had shipped their bikes to Tierra del Fuego and ridden all the way up. We met them in North Dakota. They were riding BMW 650's (I think). They had already covered over 20,000 miles and had a few weeks left before heading home. They said finding fuel was the biggest challenge going through Central America. The tank on her bike only held TWO gallons!

I've often thought that a motorcycle trip through Mexico, Central and South America would be a trip of a lifetime.

If I can ever get my hands on one of these I might give it a try:



Daylong makes a good comfortable saddle for it and it gets 100 mpg.

It has a 5 gallon tank and if you hang a 5 gallon jerry can off of each side you can go 1500 mi between gas stations.
