Ok - from a VW board, I'm well aware that NJ and Oregon have laws that REQUIRE attendents to fill GAS powered cars (not diesel). How do these jockeys react when it is a motorcycle and not a car / pickup ?

I've been to gas stations that are supposed to pump all gas.  They let me take care of my own gas in the motorcycle.

Pumps not self service
they take special credit card  only staff has but you can control  the hose as to stopping when ready

Same with me.  I've had them stand next to the bike and hand me the nozzle.

They do NOT fill up motorcycles. They have the biker do it themselves. I think it's a safety thing with bikes. I've been living here in Or. for ten years and never had an attendant do it. The biggest problem here is off the beaten path and at night. The gas stations are closed and the ones I've tried to get gas at would not accept the card and would no dispense gas. In my RV I had to sleep in it until the morning to fill up. I do like the fact that so many people are working pumping gas that may not have a job without it an also I don't have to mess with it in bad weather. So I'm all for it.

Some communities in MA still have bylaws that do not allow self serve stations. Nozzle is handed to rider.

Wow, those states are going back to the 50's and before when it comes to an attendant filling your tank. As a kid I always liked to wash the windshield if it was a good looking female at the wheel.  Wink

Not about self serve or attendant serve, but the gas station on  USMC Camp Pendleton is the only place in the country I was ever made to get off my bike to fuel it.

(I know many always get off, but I never get off, 'least not with a center-fill tank).

You'll blow yourself up... or put your eye out... or something.   crazy2

I know I made $1.25/hr to pump gas at a time there was no self service.  I'm glad they didn't have self service when I was 16.  Right when miniskirts were everywhere, and we were required to clean every windshield.    Evil

What Art said, except for some remote gas stations on the east side of Oregon allow users to get gas at night.  The Gov changed this for us who might be out late at night when the stations are closed.

I have actually put my own card into the some of these pumps at remote stations, gassed my vehicle and got the receipt.

If memory serves me, I have only had to tell one attendant (he was new to the job) to give me the pump since I moved here in 2010.  Some even hand me towels incase of spatter.  I normally put the pump up when done and get my own receipt.

Just as a side, do sometimes like the idea of having someone else gas my other vehicles.  Getting lazy I guess.

Ha ha.  I did.  Felt very uncomfortable and smelled bad all day.

I still gas up while sitting in or standing over the saddle.

All the pumps here in OR that I have been to, the attendant just puts your card in and pushes the buttons.   NO special code required, except for some that require you ZipCode.  Though one, that I get gas at a lot,  asks if you have a rewards card, Yes or No answer.

I pretty much stand straddled my Valk to fill tank.  Gas stations are few and far in between here.  Need to get as much gas as I can in.  that extra tenths of a gallon helps a lot.   2funny 2funny  Also don't take helmet off, just flip up visor.

At least with an interstate, carefully slow feeding at the end, you can get a full half gallon more in the tank than if on the side stand.  The pump has to allow a slow feed, some don't (so you quit).  And I still don't leak any if I put it on the side stand for a short stop.  But, you don't want to leave a fully topped up bike sitting on the side stand in the hot sun for very long, or you may get some leakage from the vent.

I think this half gallon is the reason so many report disparate miles per gallon for their bikes.
