I see no reason for us to miss InZane this year and we are already planing the route! We'll be bringing the RV with the Valk in the garage.
I know we might miss some of the happenings by not staying at Ground Zero, but I just really like sleeping in my own bed.
Any other "campers" making the trip this year?

1,089 miles from home each way...  If I take the shortest route.

(This is NOT a slam or negative comment in any way, please don't take it that way!!!)

I've been through this part of the country several times, so I'm about 50/50 as to if I'll go next year... Probably closer to 51/49 though... I'm gonna try to make it just for the camaraderie if nothing else, and look forward to it if I can make it happen.

(Already playing with routes, that 1,089 only goes to 1,177 if I detour down to Deal's Gap on the way... And 1,221 if I go through Deal's Gap and then up through Smoky Mountains National Park :) )

Come up The Dragon then over to Cherokee, NC and hit The Blue Ridge Parkway you can take it all the way <---- Nice beautiful ride.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

I've done the RV thing the last two Inzanes.   May do it again.   Really depends on who comes along.   If you happen to locate a good RV site, please let me know.   I'll make that decision when I know more about GZ.

My wife and I also used our RV last year,
I am in the same boat as Rams, I will wait to see how the camping facilities look, and how close they are to ground zero before making a decision. We should know shortly after the 1st of January.

There aren't any nice campgrounds within 20 mi of Roanoke.

There are a couple places with hook ups inside of 10 mi but they can be a little sketchy.

Last year at Billings I think there was power available at Ground Zero, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't know about it until we were already there and established at our campground. That would have been really sweet; best of both worlds!

Yep, that would have been nice but, GZ is in the business of selling rooms and not likely to let us plug in and fill up their parking lot.    I will probably RV again this year but still looking at the options.   If you find a good RV site, please post it here.   Thanks   :cooldude:

Yeah, understand. I'll start my spot search more thoroughly after registering in January. Like 3fan4life indicated, the options may be kind of slim.

I think my wife and I are going to stay at the host hotel this year so we will not need the campground, but while looking I did find a small RV Park for those interested:

McFarland RV Park
1180 Lee Highway, Roanoke V. (Hwy 11)
ph# 540-992-2076

The lady that answered the phone said that they do not advertise because "everyone know where we are".
The park has been in their family for over 50 years, and it is located behind their family motorsports business.
She said that they have 30 and 50 amp, but only have about 15 - 18 spaces depending on the size of the RV's.
Doing a google satellite search shows that it definitely is not fancy, but who needs fancy? Close proximity to the host hotel is more important than fancy. (to me at least)

We don't know where the host hotel is yet, but I'm guessing it will be near the airport as there are a group of 5 or 6 hotels close to there that look like they could accommodate our function. If that is the case, this RV park would only be  4- 5 miles from the airport.

PS when doing a search, use just the address as the RV park name shows their office (home) across the street.

Appreciate the information.   All I really care about is that there is power and a shower/restroom facility.   All I do is sleep and have breakfast in the RV during Inzane.   Spend the vast majority of my time at the host hotel or riding my baby.    So, being honest, if Walmart would let me plug in, I'd be happy with that.   Well, kind of.

I've overnighted in my RV at a Walmart, they tend to send the street sweepers out about 2;00 AM and those folks don't care if you're trying to sleep.   :(

For those that are not from the area, according to Google Maps, Marion VA is about 2 hours away from Roanoke, VA.

Marion is an area well known in these parts and Rt 16 from Marion to Tazwell is called "The Back Of The Dragon".  Thirty two miles and over three hundred curves. Crossing three mountains in its course from Marion, Virginia to Tazewell, Virginia, the Back of the Dragon offers knee dragging curves, switchbacks, limited access and elevation changes that no other motorcycle route can offer.

Besides that there are several (6 or 7) additional well know rides in that area that I'm sure you'll find worth the ride.

Check it out  http://clawofthedragon.com/

Marion and Tazewell are a good "Day Ride" from Roanoke.

I'm using Google maps to put together some suggested rides in the area.

Once, I have them done I will post them (Probably not until April or early May).

I also plan to have some printed out that can be picked up at Inzane,

As soon as I get the artwork, we will open registration.  There's no risk of filling the hotel until we open registration... no one can make a reservation until we do... the rooms are blocked for us.

On the main page, there is an InZane registration link (not open yet). You register, pay your money to come, then you get a reg # and you contact the Ground Zero (GZ) hotel and they will let you book your nights. No reg #, no booking. The GZ location usually isn't advertised.

Paying for registration gets you a few things. Members put on How-to demos. Rides, organized and others. A meet up of a great group of like minded people. It is well worth it. The best thing we all get out of it, is the continuation of this great website.

Bring some extra money. Get in on the daily 50/50 draws and the raffle giveaways. Items are donated by fellow members, both private and businesses.

** Edit:  Sorry to edit your post, but IZ18 registration is not open yet.  As soon as we get the artwork.

Around 400 attendees, give or take.  Most stay at the GZ hotel; it's big enough for everyone.
