Serk,
You may be right. Can't/won't argue the point.
But, I do think the bump stock legislation is going to go through with very few voting against it.
The way I see it, it might be better to compromise and get something out of it. (This time)
IOWs, pick yer battles.
As I heard someone say the other day, I don't give up, I remember and wait.............
I've tried a bump stock or two. Undoubtedly fun as long as I'm not buying the ammo but not much practical use. I don't like any loss of our firearms rights, it's always just another bite taken from an already too small cake. However, if it buys wins in more useful areas then I can live with it.
Frequently when my wife is traveling she will decide that carrying her gun is not worth the constant checking of laws before she crosses into a new state and the worry that she might accidentally turn into a law breaker. We know killers don't worry about that, just the law-abiding and it needs fixed.
However, I also remember the NRA giving in on too many battles during the Clinton presidency which caused myself and many others to send our money to Jews for the preservation of firearms ownership, the GOA and other alternate civil rights groups. And that brought the NRA back where they should be eventually.
I'll trust them on this and see what happens. There are bound to be copycat killings after this last coward at the concert unfortunately. I personally think that if these people see the 2nd Amendment people do any giving we will see more killings, not less. This last guy seemed to have picked his list of firearms from the left's ban list intentionally in my opinion and I expect to see more of that. Even down to the tannerite in his car, it seemed designed to ignite the anti-gun communities and scare the citizens. Hopefully I'm wrong but it appears terrorists are specifically targeting getting Americans to give up our 2nd Amendment freedoms to me. As I said, hopefully I'm wrong.
If it appears the NRA's backing of these rule changes is a one time thing and if we gain from it somewhere else I'll continue to send them my money. If it appears to be the start of a trend, I'll keep my life membership but other donations will be going to the GOA and other groups.
I also think it's worth noting the NRA is merely encouraging the BATF to change an Obama era ruling that surprised the heck out of me in the first place. It maybe their thinking is that a change in rules is better than new laws which always come with unforeseen expansions of the loss of freedom. A mere change in rules can always be changed the same way again later without an act of Congress.
