My wife, daughter, and some of their friends took off this morning for Vegas. They are doing a show and coming back tomorrow . I know it's not rational and there is no reason for it, but I have been thinking about this trip since the shooting. It's kind of weird because she is usually the one given to feelings. I usually shrug that kind of stuff off. I think it's maybe because I'm not there with her. She's never been good in an emergency situation. I've always said if I ever have a heart attack, I'm a goner because she will freak out and panic. Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. I guess it's my turn for some irrationality.

If it helps, it's probably the safest place in the world now. I mean what are the odds.

I flew to Amsterdam the day that the first ground war started in Iraq. People were afraid to fly due to terrorism fears. As a result, I was the only one in business class on a KLM 747. My service was outstanding. I figured that's the best time to fly because airline/airport security is at maximum alert.
I came back the day the ground war ended. I guess that everybody that had put off flying figured it was ok now and as a result the flight was packed, I got the middle seat in the last row in coach on a KLM 747. My seat was 75S. I didn't know they went that high.

I wonder if that's what the people in the WTC south tower were thinking after they saw the WTC north tower was hit by an airliner?

Even if one were in the crowd at the concert (which was only a small portion of the people in LV) there were 21,500 who went away completely unharmed. That pits the odds there at 97.5% against any ill.
We do tend to let the "news" dictate to us false perceptions of the chances of danger.

I'm usually not this way. For some reason I was this time. Maybe old age is turning me wimpish.

My Wife and I flew to New York for Thanksgiving weekend after 9/11 precisely because people said it was not safe to go there anymore. Never was good at taking advice.

[/quote] You're just reacting normally, Rob... Sensational headlines, talking heads on TV and in print, everybody is seeking relevance and subscribership... and they scare the beegebers out of us regular folks to grab our attention. It's no wonder you and I get so concerned when folks we care about are exposed, no matter the odds of actual calamity... Concern is heightened and compounded by the knowledge we won't be there to 'protect them'... It has something, I think, to do with the way our minds process risk assessments... The higher the stakes, the more risk averse we become regardless of the odds. Soon enough, Brenda will return to the balmy shores of Lake Havesu, and all of this will become a fading memory... DDT P.S. I'm crossing my fingers anyway for her safe return... just in case...

PS: We were interviewed on NY1 about coming into the City as we were coming out of Macy's doing a little Christmas shopping. My Nephew and his Wife saw us up on the billboard in Times Square during the interview. They were in the City from Chicago so, I guess you can't give some of my family advice either.

Thanks, Bruce she came back last night. All is well, except now she is sick with Strep throat or something. It was a strange feeling for me this weekend. I'm not normally given into emotions, some would call me heartless. Take care my friend

My brother is in the air returning from Vegas, was over to watch the Monster Cross Super X and have a break, I never gave it a second thought until my office lady mentioned it the shootings and not she would go... I didn't ask what his wife thought but I bet she was nervous about it...
He enjoyed his trip, blown away by the size of things over there, stayed in the New York New York.. Well I think that was what it was called.

Makes Vegas look like a little hamlet.
