The people that I might otherwise worry about knowing where I live wouldn't come here to confront me anyway, because they don't go places where they can't bring their security blanket(s).   Cool Evil

what makes you think anyone needs a "security blanket" to confront you?
They don't need it to confront me, they just need it to feel secure wherever they go for whatever reason.  Smiley

another misconception from a non carrier. I carry to protect myself and my family and other citizens around me. I don't carry to feel secure with myself in public. Something someone who has never carried a weapon on them will understand.
If someone refuses to go to a place where the likelihood of being in a situation where a firearm on his person will actually protect him is virtually nil, because he cannot carry, then his need to carry everywhere he goes is purely psychological.

I'm not a rock climber, but I understand that when a rock climber wears a harness and clips onto climbing ropes, he is taking measures to prevent his injury or death should his hold fail.  The rock climber has excellent reason to use his fall-prevention equipment when climbing, but when he is off the rock face he takes off the harness, even though there might conceivably be a time when the balcony he is standing on might collapse from under him.

If one insists on carrying, yet refuses to take measures that have a far (far!) greater chance of preventing premature death, like quitting smoking, putting the phone away when driving or walking near traffic, not aggravating his wife, etc., then his firearm is a security blanket.

Actually, if you are one who won't come to Canada because you can't carry, you're probably happier staying within the confines of America.

Why are u so worried about what we do here as American citizens? These are our rights, given to us by our founders. These rights were to protect ourselves from Government Tyranny, and nothing else. And in the history of the world, many millions were and still are killed by their own Government.

We have many here in the States who think like u, and that is their right to object, but it gives them No Right to tell others what to do. U always use these euphemisms to get your points across, yet when we do the same, it's still not good enough?

A gun is still only a tool, back in the day it was everything to settlers. It protected them, it put food on the table. Nothing has changed except the fact that we have more insane people walking the streets, along with a huge gang and illegal criminal presence in this Country.

We still need to protect ourselves and our families against any and all threats including our own Government. I wish one day for world Peace, but just in case that don't happen, I will stay armed and ready. U seem to think that because we have police and a standing army, that we don't need anything more to keep us safe  Roll Eyes well u my friend live in a fairy tale  Wink

I know that the days of our Revolution against King James was a long time ago, but a rag tag assembly of farmers and local citizens assembled what they had in weapons and knowledge of the terrain and sent him packing. We wont be caught with our pants down ever again.

The words of Yamamoto in WWII said he would not come ashore after Pearl Harbor because there would be a gun behind every blade of grass !!! I hope u never have the need to protect yourself or loved ones against someone who could care less about taking u out, your going to feel kind of foolish swinging that safety harness at him.  crazy2

Here I am!  I am was one of "those guys".  I just added my home location to my profile 2 days ago.

I had 2 reasons for not posting my location when I first signed up with the VRCC.  First, I do not like to have much information about myself and my life hanging out there in cyberspace.  There is way too much of that out there now for me to feel secure about it.  I am not concerned about LEOs or other authorities finding my information, but I certainly do not want to make it easier for hackers and scammers.  Second, I knew nothing about the VRCC when I joined it so I put down minimum information.  I wanted to get to know the VRCC folks before adding information.  After that initial sign up, it never crossed my mind again till someone asked me what part of the country I was riding in.  They asked that question 2 days ago.  Obviously I now feel much more comfortable having my home location listed in the VRCC records.

I cannot speak for other folks but that is/was my reason.

Crossville, TN?   Wow!!   You're not that far away.

Maybe we should get together sometime and share some wind.    angel

This is precisely the reason I look at where someone is located.   There might be someone just around the corner that is another Valkyrie enthusiast.

Frasier in Southeast Tennessee

« Reply #48 on: October 29, 2017, 08:19:29 AM »

I initially posted as Southeast Tennessee, no particular reason just did, thought it was descriptive of the area I rode most in and identified the area I was most familiar with.
Later when I moved I changed it to Frazier, actually still Southeast Tennessee, because it was descriptive, and then I realized no one knew where it was.

I may change it back.

Yeah, I know.    2funny

Was just trying to make the point that if, there's a location then, a rider might meet other riders.
BTW, I also know Art but, we haven't ever ridden together.   He's always too busy.   Smiley
I also claim to have no idea of who DDT and Land Elephant are.

(Hope all is well with both Bruce and Charlie.)

Speaking for myself, Ron's point is well taken.  It is nice to be able to quickly see if another Valkyrie rider lives close enough to get together easily for some rides and comradery.

My reluctance in the beginning stemmed from my knowing some other "bikers".  People I had known in the past that would shake your hand, tell you jokes, buy you a beer, shoot you in the back, steal your bike, strip it and sell the parts.  Nothing personal,.... it's just what they do.

When I first joined the VRCC, I was what would be called a "lone wolf".  I joined the VRCC for a good source of information on the Valkyrie.  I did not join to find riding companions.  Since then I have met several Valkyrie riders that I now call friends.  I trust these friends and believe none of them would shoot me in the back.  That is not to say that I trust everyone that signs up for membership in the VRCC.  I have seen a very dark side of life, often wearing a 3 piece suit and that has made me wary.  I am what I am, no apologys and few regrets.
