I knew OSS was a democrat the first time he said he was a union electrician..or was that some one else?

Evan is an attorney in NYC. I don't think they are unionized.  Smiley

Well, I just spent a few minutes reading through this subject and frankly I'm disappointed....plus that's a 7-8 minutes I'll never get back.

Daddie-O, I do think it's time you reconsider what you post in the future. I've come to know your political beliefs over the last couple years, they do appear to be a bit narrow minded but probably no more than mine from the opposite pole. Yet, with all the friends I've developed over the years within this club, I would never post something as derogatory as this one. Believer it or not, not all the membership is Republican. My wife and I are registered with different parties, and we've been married for many years without shooting each other or referring to the other in a derogatory manner.  cooldude

Well that was mildly entertaining.  Slightly disappointed there were no "yo momma" jokes thrown about as a means of degradation towards each other.

In all of the years that I've been on this board, IMO, Daddio meets the exact same standards as Vmax from Canada and we all know what happened to him. He was banned as I remember.  At that time, there was even talk about a group going to see him and bring him into line. Not good.

The fact that this thread is on the second page is telling in itself.

We must ask ourselves. What have we accomplished.

It seems like everything is bad news these days. Why put up with it here on the VRCC too.?

It is with no small amount of regret that I have removed the posting privileges of Daddie O.  It's not because of the positions he represents, but because of the disrespectful and disruptive way in which he has chosen to post.  We do not take this action lightly.  It is rare for us to ban a member and we require a unanimous agreement among the staff to do so.

Before we get involved in celebrating the passing of an irritation we do need to each consider our own practices.  Some of us do also occasionally get into disrespectful and demeaning behavior, some more than others and generally around political perspectives.  It has been too easy for Daddie O to draw some into that and some simply dance on the line of acceptable.  We need to discipline ourselves to avoid disrespectful and demeaning posts.  As my mother used to say, "If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all."  Overstated, but there is a time for us to hold out tongues (or typing fingers).  We don't have to reflexibly respond to everything that needs to be corrected (in our own opinions).

Let us work on playing nicely and asking ourselves, how will this contribute positively to the continuing conversation?

Thank you for taking the time.

Carl,
I appreciate your words of wisdom.   You are correct in the post above.

I have found myself unable to not react to certain members posts and after much deliberation decided that the problem was me.   This thread is precisely the reason I now use the ignore button.

I sincerely do appreciate all the staff does to keep the site afloat and viable.

Warmest regards and ride safe.

If I can borrow a scooter from someone, you and I can ride our scooters while holding hands and singing Kum bay ya.  Or, to make it safer, we can be passengers on the scooters while holding hands and singing!  Maybe Scott in Ok can add this as an event in the InZane bike games, with the winning team being the ones that get to the end with the most people joining in the sing-along.

Really, people, if every time we want to write an angry reply, we just stop and consider that the person we are responding to might just be trying to wind us up, we'll be better off.  Let's take a few minutes before responding, if we still need to respond, then do so in a way that either refutes their comments or asks them to back up their comments with facts.  And perhaps resist the urge to discuss their genitalia and/or where it's kept.

Honestly I've observed that a request for facts to back up a position is loosely a way of saying, "Go ahead and try to support what you say because  I will declare anything you present as invalid."

If you've reached a point from which you cannot respectfully discuss or you've completely lost your respect for the other guy just walk away.

Perhaps that's what some mean, but I can honestly say that when I ask for supporting facts, it's for one of several reasons:
1.  I think their position can't be supported by facts, and I hope the facts they find will lead them to a revised position.  Or if they won't support their position with facts, then we have an indicator about how much weight to give their position.
2.  I am interested in what they are saying and am genuinely interested in the information that led them to their assertion.
3.  I hold a position that is different than theirs, but if my position is contradicted by truth I want to verify that truth before revising my position.

This is the sentiment shared by me and I am sure many others...I will freely admit that I love to debate, it's one of the things that make life worth living! If we all agreed and walked around like zombies life would suck! But a HUGE part of debate is learning and understanding the OPPOSITE position.  As we trained for debates in school, we would ALWAYS have to argue BOTH sides of EVERY argument.  This gives you a true understanding of an opposite view point. I have always said, I use every available fact that I know or can research to base my opinion on, HOWEVER, I am fully prepared to change that position if new information and/or facts are presented that prove the earlier information wrong.  If you have a point, state it and back it up. If you are not ready to back it up, just keep it to your self in the first place or be prepared to get the "facts" presented to you in refute.

Prior to him being expelled/banned/personanongrata/ I have skipped a LOT of what he posted. The FACT he went after Evan from the git go was not I M H O kewl at all. And then Mark-Mad6Gun-came under attack. I've met and ridden with and shared wind with and broken bread with these two and many others here. It was Difficult to NOT get involved and I stayed out of it for a number of reasons I will Not expand on here. Suffice to say I had a cursed Good idea what the outcome might become which later on proved out. Dad used to tell us some folks Will give themselves enough rope to hang themselves with. I Know Evan and Mark and others Are in Fact full growed Men. I do enjoy most of the discussions we have here in The V R C C. I am as guilty as some here for pot stirrin. I will attempt in future to Think before I Act/Post. A coolin off period if you will. Evan Mark-for what it's worth-you two did WELL. RIDE SAFE.

FYI... We are loathe to ban ppl; we certainly don't take it lightly or take any pleasure in it.  Our unwritten policy has been unanimous consensus.  I've been part of VRCC admin for 15 years.  In all that time, Daddy O was only the 4th person to have his posting privileges revoked.

Unfortunately, we always take some heat when we have to take this step.  But, what some don't consider is that they see very little of the offensive behavior, since most of it is pulled before they see it.

I'm glad you view it as an extreme measure.

If there is any heat (which seems doubtful), it is entirely unwarranted.

I was a moderator once (with some help).   We had to ban a couple drunks.  They were both good guys, until they drank, then they were terrible guys.  It was just like Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde.

Forgiveness and 2d & 3d chances didn't work.  The good of the community should prevail.

Thanks again.
