You might try some bronze wool on the headlight bucket overspray.  That stuff works magic on chrome!  Nice find, thanks for giving it another chance!
Jeff

I wish I could have tried to get it off by now. Weather hasn't agreed with me. Too cold to even go outside.

Only have 125 G on mine but soon as I git back to Missouri and the salt is off the roads I need some seat time. Again-welcome from the Missouri Ozarks and where you iz ain't dat far from where I iz. Keep us updated on progress or lack thereof and keep in mind fer riders mostly it ARE P M S time!  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

Long thread.  Lots to talk about.

I guess I disagree with most.  It wasn't a good price.  By the time you've got that Valkyrie in the shape you want it you will have spent more money and a lot more effort that you would have just buying a Valkyrie in good shape at much more money.  On the other hand it is a good rescue project.  I hope the work will be a rewarding experience for you.

Keep us updated on the progress.

You're completely right, but most of the work that is needed on it is purely cosmetic. Since I'm still in school, I didn't want to spend $4-5k on a Valkyrie in better shape. I wanted something I could work on and see what I could do.

Now, eventually I want to end up with a new Valkyrie, but that'll have to wait a few years  Cool

I have bought 5 Valks. Rescued  three.  One was burnt . I parted it out. I will continue to rescue them as long as I am able. The last one is a black and chrome. It is ready to go. Waiting for better weather to post it again. Have another one in sight.

Decided to turn this into my build thread. I've done a lot to her since the original post. I should be getting in a lot of parts today, will post pictures later.

Any idea how to get paint off of the chrome? I used 99% IPA to get the overspray off. Not sure how to get rid of the flat-black crap.

Oven cleaner sitting on it for 30 minutes.  Don't let it touch "good" paint, though.

Hah. Not sure there’s any “good” paint on her. I’ll give it a try

Welcome aboard!
Are you at State? I graduated from there in '73. I've only been back a couple of times since then.
Tennessee and Mississippi are still, and will always be, home for me. Next time I'm at the old homestead in Arkabutla MS I'll try to run down your way. Interested in seeing what you can do with that bike!
Nice find. cooldude

Yeah, I'm a senior in Electrical Engineering. My parents graduated from here in the early 80's, as well as the rest of my extended family. Feel free to let me know whenever you're around, Oby's (I'm assuming this was around when you were here, it was in the late 70's) is just around the corner.
I don't know Obys, Crossroads and Len Lew's were the main places in my day. I understand Len Lew's burned down in 74 or 75.

Ah yeah, Not familiar with those. Still not much to eat around here.

Bike wouldn't start this morning... starter assembly was stuck. Going to have to clean it

What do you mean by starter assembly stuck? Don’t try to start it, if it is hydrolocked you will tear something up.
