So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Nobody is holding a gun to your head and says "You must lane split / filter." We all have free will to make the choice to ride our motorcycles as WE / YOU see fit. Lane splitting / filtering is a convenience and YOU make the choice to do it or not. But don't tell me I'm wrong or unsafe if I COMPLY with the requirements and perform this safely.  MY free will choice.

Charlie,
Never said it wasn't your choice, go back and re-read what I said.   The risk is increased and while Carl may disagree with my way of stating it.   If a person chooses to lane split and thinks it's no risker, they are not looking at it realistically.   More people and vehicles in a closer space with converging speeds.   I'm not suggesting it can't be done, I am simply seeing the reality of it.

I honestly don't care if anyone else wants to do this or does it all the time but, it does tick off cage drivers and puts more people at risk.   If I've insulted anyone's intelligence, that was not my intent.

I would, and I wouldn't. Helmet is a non issue.
As a friend of mine said one July afternoon, "Why do you live here, its hotter than the hub of hell".
During those days, I would probably go to the front.
I've also been caught in micro-bursts.
That's where rain comes from every direction, with hail, fierce wind and people in cars look at you mournfully. No need to pull over on the bike, you wont get wetter.
I'd probably take advantage of that too and find a bridge till it passes. Then you're dry in 20  miles.
Stuck on the freeway with 175 degree pavement, I'm going to.
Nice day, no real issues, I wouldn't.
BTW, I've been part of the problem.

As I said previously:
We chose to ride on two wheels, that does not give us "special" treatment or rights over those who chose to drive with four.

I don't like being tail gated and I try to not tail gate, while on the highway or street, I have just as much right to the right of way as anyone on a bike or any cage has.   They also have thr right unless that space is occupied by me or someone else.    I respect their right to "own" that asphalt they are on and I expect them to respect the space I occupy.

I also don't appreciate it when someone passes close by me.   Normally, I'm not expecting it.   That applies whether I'm on my Valkyrie, in a cage or, pulling a load with my truck.   I've live long enough to know that I'm no longer invincible.   Like most young'ns, I used to think I was indestructible.   Now, I know better.

I seriously doubt any State would ever legislate use of breakdown lanes (for bikes or anything else).  It's a safety, fire and rescue thing.  Here in town, commuter traffic is so bad, one freeway designates break down lanes as HOVs only during commuting times.  That's it.

IF the cops are on scene, and IF they start directing people to use certain breakdown lanes, OK.   Otherwise, it'll never happen.

That is correct.

We went through that process in MN looking at Lane splitting options and the powers to be indicated that those lanes are reserved for emergency vehicles and breakdowns; no discussion/negotiation.

I can understand that but then I would as why all the metro buses get use the shoulder in heavy traffic?

Good point, and not brought up.

I'm not in the metro very much anymore and I didn't realize they were doing that.   But it will be ammunition in what will surely be an open discussion again.  Thanks.
