Found my new north-south route thru California. CA 25, 198, 33 was awesome! I don’t know why I never went that way before. So much better than other routes.

I just looked at those roads on street view... I'd love to ride them!

Done the CA-25 already, pretty nice as it passes through the Pinnacles National Park.

It also connects to the CA-152 (Pacheco Pass), which is ok (but with heavy traffic).

I prefer the CA-130 if going to the East, through the Diablo Range, with a stop at 'The Junction' grill/pub: http://thejunctionbarandgrill.com

My plan was to do the 130. I missed the turn, I kept looking for an exit to CA-130. Never happened, in retrospect I should have realized I needed to get off on the Alum Rock exit.  tickedoff Oh well. I really enjoyed the 25,198,33 route. Next time. I will try to pm you in advance.  Smiley

The Junction is a great little place to  grab lunch while headed on down to Lick Observatory.  The road from the Junction to Lick is a nice twisty/switchback number. A couple of years ago, we stopped in and there was about 30 Lambo's, Ferrari's,  and one lone little BMW taking up the parking lot. Must of been 10 million in auto costs in the lot and all of them had the hoods/bonnets/trunk or what ever you call it....... we thought they were showing off their engines.....in fact they were trying to cool them after running from Lick to the Junction...."at a brisk pace"!! Turns out they were a bunch of neuvo-rich venture capitalists out of Menlo Part/Cupertino.

A late friend had a 6000 acre ranch about 5 miles north of the Junction and to the east of Mines road.  We used to go there and stay in a 30 man bunk house and go bass fishing in the ponds on the property.  Last time there about 3 years ago in late April, it was about 80 degrees at noon and by 4 pm it was 30 degrees and snowing.....weirdest  thing I ever saw.

Mines road is a great little ride.......gotta pay attention in some places.....1000' off the side with no guard rails.
