I don't think Thunder-Snow is a real word

We don't see many snow storms here in NC, but I'm fairly sure that Thunder-Snow is not a real word. It sounds fake. Apparently the other day we had a Thunder-Snow. ?!?!

Oddly new words aside, I've been thinking about the old folk sayings (Ole Wives Tales as it were) about snow falls. "If snow lays for three days it is waiting on more."  "A thunderstorm in the winter means snow is coming."

Well. We had a Thunder-Snow. Does that count as a thunder storm? It was lightening and thundering while the snow fell. That was odd for around here.  The snow fell Sunday and is still here on Wensday, so that has been three days. Perhaps it is waiting for more, but when will it fall, June?

Oh well it could be worse. The main roads are clear. The temp is getting higher during the day (still 17 at night). We're beginning to thaw out.

We had the same thing in VA the other night.

I got up to look outside and was surprised to see how hard that it was snowing.

I've seen this once before while traveling but it is an oddity to say the least.

Most of our snow is already gone and the forecast is for a high of 65 on Fri and Sat.

Shovel snow off the driveway on Mon, Ride the VALK on Fri.

Here in Michigan "Thundersnow" is not uncommon at all...it might be a little rare but we see it every now and then...mainly in a late winter storm...it usually means heavy wet snow and lots of it...but it also normally doesn't stick around for long ...it melts away rather fast because it means the temps are rising....

I appreciate the cross country confirmation. I thought the local weather heads were making things up again.
Thundersnow.
Odd.

We've done thundersnow here as well...snow itself is kind of unusual here, so I'd say the couple thundersnows I've seen break the curve and make it normal LOL!

Thunder-sleet too!

We got 9" over here in Waldorf Maryland and it's still on the ground.
I suspect I'll have snow in my back yard for at least another week despite the warm weekend.
My back yard is mostly shaded by the house and stays much colder than my front yard!
