I placed an order for 2 this morning and got a similar email about back order.  I sure hope prices don't jump as a result.  I do have a spare I got before the price increase in case this falls thru for some reason.

I had a perfect one on the bike to begin with and then had an accidental fuel spillage and... Shazam.. It crinkled good right before my eyes.... I think I even heard it crinkle.   Be careful out there... LOL.

I may have inadvertently created a monster with this post. But I would think that David Silver would have to honor the price listed on their site.

Well here's what I found and I ordered 4 of them. They are in the UK and you have to wait about 3 weeks to get them. But hell, to me that's much better than paying the inflated prices for them here in the states. They order them directly from the factory and cost is a little more than $17 each plus shipping. My total including shipping was just over $80 for the four covers.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Just ordered 4. Don't care if it takes 2 months!

NoGrey - we should call you noChrome  :cooldude:

How did you get all the chrome off? Even around the raised Honda logo, awesome!

The chrome around the "HONDA" symbol was very securely attached still. So I sanded the tops of the letters, cleaned the whole thing with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol, then sprayed it with plastic primer. The photo you show in your quote is after the primer has been sprayed.

I just heard back from Matt stating my 3 covers are shipping out today.

They would have shipped out Friday but my debit card didn't go through. Turns out my Credit Union has an international block on the card. Any business outside the US gets rejected. I had to take the block off for 2 days and payment went through. I wasn't aware of that but I kind of like the safeguarding.

:cooldude:...great!

Ok, Mark, you did really well discovering this site and you've saved some VRCCers  a lot of money and we thank you for it.

Now, I would REALLY be impressed if you came up with drive shafts and pinion cups for 50 bucks, alternators for 70, ujoints for 40, oh, and a cheap source for tires.  ;) :uglystupid2: :crazy2:

Wow! That's good to know. I'll bet that has happened to more than one owner. I could never understand why my 97 tourer that sat out in the weather for 12 years before I bought it (owner died, bike was in probate) had a perfectly good cover on it, while other "garage kept" bikes I had purchased were crinkled. Good to know.

rhinor61

I ordered another one..

by the time they catch up with a backorder, perhaps I will need to replace it...

thanks for the heads up, but did you price out some other parts?? DANG...

Great resource! The site said if you need other parts email your request. So I did. We will see what they reply. I asked about, timing cover, engine guard, left mirror, right side taillight assembly, and I also ordered the alternator covers.

Xtracho,

Great find!  I ordered 3 for some of the locals.  I paid $95 for one from Canada a few months ago.  I kind of wish I had waited for your post  :tickedoff: .

All you need is a part number and they will give a quote. Just asked about the timing cover. $245 + vat. I saw a used one on EBay for $275 that had issues. I will be ordering my cover from across the pond for sure. I like new and shinny for about the same price delivered.
Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most.

Xtracho

Good news all the way around! Perhaps by chance we have found a reliable vendor across the pond for more than just the alternator covers. Thanks again everyone for the updates.  :cooldude:

Another positive report! Thanks!

Despite my confidence with David Silver I must admit a bit of hesitation in posting this. I certainly did not want any of you guys to have a bad experience with them. Glad it seems to be working out for everyone so far.

I found that the European dealers had them cheaper back in May. I ordered mine and figured I'd wait till they showed up before I told the group. I was getting worried because they told me it was back ordered for a month, and after a month they told me it would be another month. I was getting worried that I was never going to get them. But they really were back ordered, and I did get them it just took a couple of months.
That said, getting them from a UK dealer eliminates the language barrier, I just picked the cheapest one I found.

Good deal for everyone involved. I don't expect the price to hold out though. I figure after we burn through the inventory stocked over there they will have to jump the prices just like the US did.
