anyone ever own one, good or bad to say about it?

One is local very good price looks from pics well upkept for 3500 bucks, but over 70,000 miles on it.  Would that type of mileage scare anyone off on purchasing one of these bikes?  Will they run much like our Valks into the 200,000  mile range or needing rebuilt at 100K miles?

I also saw an older honda st1300 in person with 152,000 miles on it at a dealer but their price was overpriced at around 4g's.

I am a lurker on the board. I read messages but don"t post any. As for a Yamaha fjr 1300, I had one for a couple of months. I found it to be a fast ride and responsive. How ever I was on tip toes at a stop.
Decided to trade it on a 2014 Honda Valkyrie from a Honda dealer. I was much happier.

I remember reading the Yami FJR was more SPORT, than tourer.  (closer to a hunched forward sport-bike riding position than you might like) (the hunched forward riding position (on any bike), always makes your balls part of the suspension)

And the Honda ST1300 was more more TOURER, than sport.

Both being sport tourers, and both beating the Valk easily (with the FJ beating the ST easily).  I also seem to recall neither being easy to fit up any highway pegs on.

I also seem to recall the Yami FJRs undergoing some big generational changes over the years, and it would be worth your time to read up on this, and choose a bike accordingly.

I had the first generation FJR.
The bike needed another gear but unlike the Valk the engine is not smooth when droning down the hwy.
The transmission had what to me was harsh shifting.
At the same time I owned a Concours C14 and to me the C14 was a much better bike, but the FJR was still a good ride and had just over 100K when I sold it...

I had a 04 FJR and it was an Awesome bike. I got rid of it because it had a very bad Heat Issue. Heat from the engine would come right up into your crotch and fry your boy's.

Other than that it was a spectacular machine, and since 2006 they have revamped the front air dam to push that heat away from your crotch. So if your looking for one make sure it is an 06 or newer.

I put a set of risers on mine and sat in a straight up position, bike has endless speed at the flick of the wrist. I had both a Valk and FJR at the same time, and it was the best of both worlds.

I am always looking for a good deal on another one, when I find one, I will buy another as well  cooldude

Well,  got a 5th cycle yesterday and unfortunately not a 2006 on up yamaha fjr1300 but a MINT (looks brand new still) 2005 blue one.  I sat, etc. on a few kawi concours and too tall a seat height for me like 1 inch higher than the yami and felt more top heavy/not as flickable.    Will see if the HEAT of the summer is an issue since like you said,  the 2006 and newer fjr1300's fixed the heat coming at you but right now not 90 degrees outside so HEAT is good.  Plus, 90% of my driving is rural country doing 60mph not much in town driving so heating issues mostly in town my guess will not be an issue I think???

The deal was too good to pass up 4K with extra goodies thrown in ONLY 17K miles MINT (I am afraid to sit on it since hate to put a first scratch in it for first time since is that NEW looking-LOL).  Looked at 2 newer fjr1300's at dealers (and a kawi concours) and one 2009 was 6200 in price 46K miles, the other 2012 over 8 grand 26K miles, both out of my price range and not pristine looking and one fired up had issues.  Sure beats the other identical 2005 yami fjr1300 we saw local with almost 73K miles even though was in good shape, for 500 bucks more from 3500 to 4K is well worth it for 55K less miles.

I met a guy at dealer yesterday who wants to sell his 2003 yami fjr1300 with 132K miles he still said will ask 4K for it so even though not worth it am sure,  4K for a 2005 like new only 17K miles ran great dealer would sell for 6K and private party easily 5K I had to snatch it up before someone else stole it.

Even though 2005, with only 17K miles was a cream puff and ran like new all the way home 150 miles one way.  Has a 6.6 gallon tank filled it up 150 miles away and still had about 1/3rd tank left so over 200 mile trips will be no problems ran it home interstate doing 80+ mph.  Man, that think is FAST and SMOOTH and handles super awesome the 650lb. weight feels like 300lbs. to me.

I think the wife is going to block me from craigslist for awhile..... coolsmiley tickedoff 2funny crazy2

Yah, I think so.  I could flip it now easily for 5K and make 1 grand profit, but then again if wanting another fjr1300 even newer will be 5K on up for sure.    Last late October 2017 I found Rebs old 1998 Valk with 73K miles or so on it for only 3 grand lots of chrome, etc.  snatched that up as well. Problem I have is you can only ride regularly 2-3 bikes all summer long off and on in WI then they sit from late November to late March not riding at all and with the rain (am a fair weather rider) 2-3 days or so per week,  the summer and fall season gets mighty short.    Not many Valks though out there though under 3 grand that I have seen ever that is fully in tact and running good.
