Congrats, I almost pulled the plug last year.  I keep thinking maybe soon then I could finally make the trip to Inzane.

Congrats, Mac. Know you will enjoy retirement, and keep yourself busy with plenty to do! Does this mean that I can show up at any time, with dem other Mississippi Scalawags, and stay as long as we wish for a ride and a visit???

Mac,

Congrats, my friend! Long time coming, I know, but you've finally arrived. You've paid your dues, and now is the time to enjoy the fruits. This bit of a suggestion wouldn't suit everybody, but... Let me suggest serious thought be given to a really long road-trip! Being a home owner, I know that would require lots of arrangements be made for you to pull it off; however, the pay-off would transform you!!! However you choose to start your adjustment to this new-to-you way of life, though, I do wish you well... Welcome to the leisure time of life!!!

I was one of the very lucky that retired at 52. Now I did some work and still do a little.
But the greatest thing I find is when you get up you can say what do I WANT to do
today. Now the things that you take on for the day seem to be more fun and fulfilling
than they were the day before.

As stated above my Cookiedough and several others, the key is to simply DO SOMETHING. My father was a life insurance agent most of his life and he told me once that, "When guys retire at 65 and get a gold watch from their company for their service, they don't even need a three-year guarantee for their watch. Statistics/actuarials  show they'll be dead in an average of twenty-seven months. Gives a more succinct meaning to "Use it or lose it."

yep,  agree totally DO SOMETHING ANYTHING.  My dad was forced to retire age 55 due to medical reasons spinal cord issues and although not mobile enough to do much fun stuff, he sat around drinking beer going downtown daily to the bars for the next 20 years of his life.  He always said he wanted to travel upon retirement but never really did much of it at all.

Hard decision to make.....as to when to retire.   I made the decision 2 1/2 yrs ago after 44 yrs in electrical construction.   I've never been bored.   Busier than I was when I was working.  Still get up around 5 am....just can't break that habit..... I've become closer to my grandkids, my wife, and my 93 yr old Mom.    I love riding during the week when there are no crowds at the places I go and the weather is right.   In other words you get to pick your days to ride.  I keep my place up better, have completed a lot of after retirement projects, and in general just really like my life quality better.     You are really gonna love retirement.   As long as the money is right and I can go the places I want to go and have fun.    Leaving in two weeks on one of our bucket list items.....a 7 day cruise to Alaska.   You gonna love it.

At the retirement lunches when someone goes all the retirees show up. You couldnt knock the grins off their faces with a 2x4, so there must be something to it. I should be able to go comfortably at 59.5 so I am planning for the next full eclipse for my last day. 24 Feb 2024. Sun goes out, and so do I  cooldude

Although if I win the lottery I will stay till they fire me. With 5 weeks vaca and 8 personal days it should take about 2 months.  Evil

why if you won the lottery you would stay until they fire you?  Does not make sense to me even vacation days, etc..

give me a cool 1 million dollars and not even give 2 weeks notice just walk out ASAP not even saying goodbye...  See ya!!!! Cool

I've often said that if i won the lottery I'd keep working just to make the bosses wonder why I was still there.
