I have a motor scooter with a plastic bowl on the carburetor. I accidently put a hole in the plastic bowl (a little smaller than a dime). I used JB WaterWeld seal several years ago, that worked for a few years. Now it is leaking. I could remove the bowl and use the WaterWeld again, but I wonder if:

1.   There is something I could paint it with that would seal it (you know, like the “seen on TV" stuff), and then I would not have to remove the bowl, or

2.   If I must remove the bowl, is there something that would be better than the JB WaterWeld?

Would a friend with a 3-D printer be a better friend after he made a bowl?
My 61 Galaxie has/had a carb cam that broke cleanly.
He made a few stabs at it and made some that are perfect.
Now I have 10. We went out for a good lunch.

You know,, the stuff on TV... FLEX SEAL. That stuff does everything. Just spray it on. Cheesy

Other than that, what about a plastic welder? I know, you'd have to take it off.

Still looking for opinions.

I removed the bowl today. Maybe I'll try the original JB Weld.

When I want to know its sealed I use Marine Tex. I have used it for many things from repairing a cavitation plate on an 125hp outboard, I actually had to make the trailing edge of the plate out of this stuff. I have also repaired fuel tanks and a water leak on an intake manifold that had a hole in it allowing coolant to run out. It has never let me down and once cured properly never failed over time. Mixing is a bit tedious and instructions need to be followed and it will not take much to seal since there is no pressure. While the consistency is pretty thick you can mix in thickeners that would hold shape a bit better, fiberglass strands may do the job as long as the epoxy is covering the strands.

You could cover the whole bowl with the stuff up to the sealing surface and not worry about the bowl material. Then sand it and smooth it out and paint it black and I doubt you would ever notice it. This stuff is strong enough to make the bowl out of if you could shape it correctly. The only thing I would caution is it may not hold great to the plastic which is why I said either line the whole bowl with it or cover the outside with it. It will have enough structural strength to hold up and is impervious to gas, therefore would hold the gas in.

If you make a thin piece of cardboard like a match book cover and put it on the inside of the bowl with plastic wrap lining the bowl, this will be the inside shape. Then take the epoxy and cover the hole and the outside of the bowl I doubt you will have a problem. I would cover the whole bowl at least up to the gas level.
